  • Slip trim in multiclip?

    1. Is it not possibole to do a slip trim in mulitclip? I want to slip trim pitchure only but seems to be impossibole, i cant find a way to break pitchure and sound apart while in multclip mode. Exampel i edeiting a talkshow, one angel on the host 2 angels on the audience, on this angels i want to have good reaction pics and it dont have to be in sync which means i need too make som quick slip trims to have the perfect pic. Is this not possibole in multiclip? why not? i mean if i want have a good recation pic which not is in sync i first have to match frame set a new in and out and then put it och the secondary storyline, this must be a joke or a bug?

    2. what about sound? let say i have 3 lavalier on 3 diffrent people and offcourse i want to listen and make a premix of all 3 and most important send all 3 chanels seprataly to protools is this possibole? (in mulitclip)

You can’t slip the content of sync clips in the multicam clip. If you want a cutaway edit it in as a connected clip. The idea of a multicam clip is to keep things in sync. That’s it’s entire purpose in being. Running multiple clips that remain locked in sync.

You can set separate roles for each person and export separate stems.

But thats insane…. Iam used to avids multiclip offcaurse everything stays in sync but if you like is very easy to unsync if you like. In normal mode you can break video and audio apart would be great to do in multiclip aswell. So if i want video wich not is in sync i need to to 4 steps extra? Match frame, set new in set new out, and put the ” outofsync” clip on the secondary storyline, or is it a easier way to slip a video clip 5 frames without unsync audio?

Actually I lied. You can slip the video in the multicam clip, you just can’t clip the video and audio separately. I wasn’t cleat if that’s what you meant.

None of what you want to do – slip picture without slipping sound in a multiclip and working with separate audio channels in multiclip – is possible in FCP X. It was really easy to do in FCP 7 and is really easy in Media Composer.

The normal trim tool lets you slip a clip the same as a non-multicam clip.

To work with separated mics and multicam:

    1. Edit your multiclip sequence for camera angles, using the audio as an angle, but only as a guide. DO NOT make any timing edits to shorten the sequence.
    2. Mute all audio on your multiclip.
    3. Edit your audio back to the multiclip as a connected clip and break it apart.
    4. Now edit the sequence for timing.
    5. Mix/edit the various mics as needed and to create split edits.

    Hi Oliver,

Great with audio ok! But back to the slip thing, in normal mode you can break audio and video apart and then easily trim video only, to break video and audioapart is bot possibly in multiclip mode. Very bad if you aske dont you agree, to slip a clip is very quick way to get the perfect timing insteed of match frame, set new in and out etc.

You can’t break apart, but you can expand, and roll the video edit independently of the audio.
