How do you get that to work in the edited timeline? When I do it, the audio moves in sync with the picture, which is not what you want.

February 19, 2012 at 9:17 pmDouble click the audio portions of the adjacent clips. Put the pointer over the video edit. It becomes the roll tool. Roll the video. The audio doesn’t move for me.
The upload image function doesn’t seem to be working for me.
All the best,

Tom, you seem to be describing making an L or J-cut. I think Michael is asking about slipping a single camera angle out of sync with the audio to use it for a reaction shot. That would be a slip or slide. From what I see, when you slip/slide a shot within the multiclip, the audio stays locked in sync to the video and moves as you move picture. The only way I see this can work is to run your audio separately as a connected clip or second storyline outside of the multicam clip and mute all the audio inside the multiclip. Then you have independent control over picture and audio elements.

February 19, 2012 at 9:44 pmBut the bad thing about have the audio sepreatly as a connected clip is when you cut the multiclip with blade it only cut the multigroup ” track” then you have to select the audio ” track” to cut audio….
Another question i have a wawefile with 2 diffrent sudio chanels. But when i import i can only lisen to one… Doesnt fcpx understand if there is 2 diffrent chanels ( 2 diffrent mics)

February 19, 2012 at 9:44 pmActually, there’s another option. As an example, you have shots A, B, and C and you want to slip picture sync only on B. Expand a/v on A and C. Set volume to 0 on B. Drag A audio under B to meet audio from C. This will still be in sync, since it’s multiclip. Now, slip B as needed. B’s audio will travel within, but since it’s effectively muted, it doesn’t matter.

February 19, 2012 at 10:01 pmIf you slipping the video you’re going to kill the audio, aren’t you? You can do it with the clip lifted out of the primary or in place and pull the adjacent audio or some other audio across it.
All the best,

Select all, them Cmd-B will split both the multiclip and the cpnnected audio clip at the same point and at the same time. It will cut across all “tracks” or “lanes”.

You should be hearing both in FCP X. Check the setting in the inspector if it’s stereo or dual mono.

I think we both gave basically the same workaround answer. Of course, the crux of the issue is that you can’t detach the audio in the multicam clip and slip picture independent of the sound, as had been possible in 7.
