This is clearly a mixture of the bird many people like to eat on thanksgiving or Christmas and what you need to do with a clockwork toy.

If you are having problems why don’t you export the movie you have already created as it is.
Then you have a safety copy of it.
You can do this through selecting cmd E and leaving the options at their default – Export: Video and Audio,
Video Codec: Current Settings ( Which for you are 1080i 29.7 )Once you have exported the movie you can then re-import it leaving all the checkboxes unchecked unless you want to create yet another copy of it!
Then create a new project at 720p 29.7 Stereo and load your movie into it. Then Render it and you should have a 720p version of your programme to go onto the next stage of outputting your programme.

What I like is your sense of perspective that must come from both your knowledge of other NLEs and your experience as an editor.
You mention that you feel the latest 10.0.3 update is probably very close to what Apple originally intended to release last Summer.
Well imagine if this had been the release and that they had also kept Final Cut Studio alive and kicking for a couple of years whilst this version grew up a bit.
It would have had a very different reception.

I seem to remember something like that. But I’m getting confused by the iteration of bugs between the various updates.
However to find the timecode of any particular clip whether from the Event Browser or Timeline select ‘open clip in timeline’ and the original timecode for that particular clip is display in the centre timecode display.
As far as I can see its only possible to get the floating skimmer timecode display in the Event viewer by either selecting in the view menu – or cmd Y

Well thanks for checking.
I decided to re-download FCPX thinking I might have a conflict somewhere unreachable but that has not sorted the problem out.
What I did find however was that the 1o.0.3 version I was trashing was over 2GB in size whereas the fresh download from the ap store was only 1.47GB.
So for some reason my old FCPX had got bloated.
From what I have picked up on this forum many people have idiosyncratic FCPX problems which become more complex when you consider the different host machines, operating systems, memory allocations etc.
Bit like life really.

Well it does”t seem dependent on which type of clip/file press cmd -d and it crashes.
The reason I duplicate clips is that one can then apply a separate set of Favourite selections – very useful when dealing with interview material.
The clip I’m trying to duplicate has 2 interviews on it and I wanted to separate the favourite set.

We work with a lot of interview material and dealing with that has been the hardest transition really.
But for us the only way is to go through an interview making favourites of all pertinent answers and then in list view re-title all the favourites with a précis of the answer. I haven’t got into using notes yet.
Where we have asked many people the same question obviously we create new keyword collections and drag selections into these.
Sounds like the way you work.
I’m sure someone knows the answer, but why is there this Metadata divide between the Event Library and the Project Library that prevents retitled sections of files being visible in the timeline.

Final Cut Pro X Help refers to it as the Timeline.
It is certainly not called a project.
But I guess people can call things whatever they like.

Alban I think you might have misunderstood what Lance was saying.
When you create and then re-title a favourite in the Event browser, that new name for the section you have favourited ( bad word I know ) does not get transferred into your project timeline. Neither do Markers or notes stay attached to clip once they go through to ‘the other side’.
Sure you can rename the clip in the Timeline index but that was not what Lance was saying. He would like the name he has given his favourite to show up in the timeline. It is not called a sequence.
This is a real pain and whilst everything is nicely organised in the event browser this does not translate into the project timeline.

I tried the Blackmagic desktop video with an Intensity Pro card I had on my shelf. The reason it was on the shelf was that it had been replaced by the Matrox MX02 unit.
So since the launch of FCPX / Lion neither of these have worked.
The Intensity Pro worked fine but as soon as Matrox released their Beta for FCPX I replaced it with that as it provides a lot more formats and also includes a calibrator.
I’m using the 720p 25p setting onto a 32″ Sony Bravia and it looks absolutely fantastic.
The reason I am using a 720p setting is that my Sony does not handle 1080p 25p for some storage reason.
It will accept 1080p 24p but not 25p.If my memory is working there used to be a 1080psf ( Progressive Segmented Frame ) setting but not any more. This is what I used to use.
Either way it is really great to have external monitoring again. Reassuring to see the films on an external screen. I’m now getting neck ache and now need a deeper deskspace to be able to push back the 2 x 27″ monitors I use with FCPX.
