[Franz Bieberkopf] “Also, when did iMovie add keykode suport?”

Since it’s from the 90s Wise could’nt use that either.

[Franz Bieberkopf] “If my information is correct, Citizen Kane was edited in 1940, and thus it was not, nor could it have been edited with any NLE. (Though, as a matter of fact, it was edited in the non-linear process common for the time).”

Thanks for pointing that out. I thought Wise had used a Zuse Z2.

[Don Scioli] “So does that mean that Robert Wise who edited CITIZEN KANE”

Citizen Kane could have been cut on Imovie.

[Joseph Owens] “does no one give a rat’s @$$ about archival/preservation, simple storage anymore?”

You can burn DVD/Bluray with FCPX.
Burned discs are throwaways – they’re not fit for archival/preservation purposes.

July 28, 2011 at 10:48 am in reply to: New Macbook Pros to be “thin” ?

I cut with fcp on a macbook 5 years ago.
The new macbook air is faster.
The new quadcore macbook pros are faster than a mac pro from 2008.
All can connect to 27 inch displays, 1 Gigabyte/sec raid array, external gpu.
Unlike fcp7, fcpx does use the cores in a mac pro.

Since this all doesn’t bode well for Pro use –
Soccer Mum is going to be the next Scorsese…

[Michael Belanger] ” the ipad cannot even browse flash sites. How pro is that.”

[Michael Belanger] “Case in point is the RED Camera. Talk about marketing hype over substance. “

[Michael Belanger] “mp3 as far as quality of sound is concerned is a huge compromise”

Now the trolls have taken over the forum.

[Geoff Dills] “Who does the advertiser think he’s reaching? Happy X owners?”

    Why not.
It’s fun to read the names:

    Whiney McWhiner
    Alan Smithee
    Bill Bixby (RIP)
    line voided (several times)
signature rejected (lots of it / still counted)

[Glen Hurd] “The elite, in any industry, have enormous impact on that industry”

    What elite?
    TV sweat shops?

[Robert Brown] “find yourself a software provider whose life-blood flows only as long as they keep their professional customers happy”

    one might add:
find yourself a software provider who doesn’t have a de facto monopoly,
isn’t threatened with bankruptcy, isn’t willing to leave your platform for money,
is not prepared to sell off his product, is not charging money you might not be
    able to afford sometime…etc.

does this leave any software provider?

  • Looking forward to reading more from you, David.

Come to think of it I* can’t think of any occasion I needed
to move a clip or something to a specific time in the timeline.
There is always a logical connection between events.
clips cut to music, a narrator, what happened before…
Even if I place clips on the timeline to try something out
I need them to be gapless for previewing.
If I had to mind some point in time I could place a gap.
Should I have to change the gap everything else would still line up
    as before.

*personally, not implying anyone else feels the same,
not expressing opinions of any Oscar winning company
