I’m not sure what source of that mov file is, but I would try HandBrake to get a fixed frame rate mp4 file to use with Vegas. The latest update to Magix Vegas Pro 15 has been reading my mov files from the iPhone 6, but before that I had to use HandBrake to take care of the variable frame rate.

  • Can you add the media again to a second track and then delete the video track? You could then trim it to a few seconds and shift it around so that the two audio tracks mix? That might be a pro feature too.

  • +1 for László

To use the iPhone video, I usually convert it with either Handbrake or GoPro Studio to get it to a constant framerate that Vegas likes. Vegas is not able to handle the variable framerate so well.

    László,

I gave this a try for fun and used BCC 10 Witness Protection where I could use Mocha to track the masks in the video. In BCC I just checked the box to show mask and used that layer as a mask. To Graham’s point, it got complicated quickly, but it was a fun exercise to play with Mocha masks without the full version of Mocha Pro.

Are you in the Pan/Crop tool? I don’t recall it ever prompting, but if you change to the arrow tool to select one mask, you should be able to select the mode of positive or negative under Path on the lefthand side of the Pan/Crop dialog. If you do not see Mode, Opacity, or Feather options, then click the + symbol next to Path to expand those options.

Right click on the event in the timeline and choose “Disable Resample” under Switches. The blur is from Vegas Pro trying to sample the frames. When you disable resample, then Vegas Pro will just drop every other frame to get you from 60 down to 30.

I went ahead and installed the free Go Pro Studio as that installs the Cineform codec that you will then see in this menu and also in Vegas Pro under Render As with Video for Windows.

    How to install Cineform …

When you customize the template you should choose medium over FilmScan to keep file sizes reasonable.

When I went to https://www.evaer.com/…I saw under features:
Option to record Skype video calls into MP4 or AVI files.

I just downloaded the trial version of Evaer and I was able to install without the Xvid codec needed for mp4 files and then went to Settings and changed the option to AVI. From there I could choose Cineform or any of the other codecs I see in Vegas under AVI.

If it were me, I would use the AVI option and see if I could choose cineform as the codec. Either way you may get a much better video file to edit with in Vegas Pro.
