Let’s say I have a 10 min. video of someone slapping himself 100 times.
One of the slaps is muffled b/c he misses his face.
I want to overlap the muffled slap with one of the other 99 slaps.

I have Vegas Basic (Not Platinum or Pro). That was a huge mistake.

There is no “Group” pop-up menu, so first, I have ungrouped the audio and video.
Options/Preferences/Editing, uncheck “Cut, copy and delete grouped events” and Apply.
Cut, then re-paste the audio (or the video) only. Now, either video or audio can be moved separately.

Now, I split the video to isolate the bad slap clip.

What is the best way to duplicate that 1 second of audio?

Can you add the media again to a second track and then delete the video track? You could then trim it to a few seconds and shift it around so that the two audio tracks mix? That might be a pro feature too.

Disable Ripple, select Event, Ctrl+ C, Cursor to destination point, Ctrl+V (i.e Copy and Paste),

Do I paste the selection into a new track?
Then I drag it into place?

Why? Put 9t where you want. Try it and see — it’s the best way to learn:)
