Kodak 250D vision 7205 will do just fine going to HDcam…. the stock anyway. Be very careful about focus, exposure etc.

I have 3 of these things and they are unreliable…. as is support from LaCie…. they respond in 3 days and tell you to do the same things you always do… repair permissions etc. and then they tell you to experiment with the cables etc. I am really fed up with LaCie….. but I am curious about these settings to prevent spin down… can you be more specific.

Just stay away from the Swiftdata array for the g5…. didn’t work and really bad customer service.

Well I have a room full of old fw400 drives which have their own unique tales of failure. Why would I buy the LaCie fw800 only to have to use it as a fw400? Undependable is undependable and support that responds in 3 days with already tried repairs is not really support. But hey the things worked for 9 months anyway. I guess we have to just start thinking of these things as disposable. Use em for a couple of projects and then throw em away.

I am going through this exact problem. In my case the raid was just plain intermittently disappearing so I luckily copied all captures off to another drive and reformatted the 2 big LaCie individually and one of them is now constantly powering down and disappearing from the desktop. LaCie tech support responded in 3 days with the usual suggestions…. repair permissions, run update tool etc… things which I indicated I had already done. I wish I could report the same level of optimism others have offered on this topic. I just emailed my reply to their response and figure I might hear back in a few days. So that leaves me with over a week of waiting for ??? LaCie had been pretty good in the past…. replacing 2 power supplies for drives but only for the ones still within warrantly coverage. I fear these things may have a limited life expectancy and the truth is I am just plain tired of all these undependable drive issues so I bought a Huge 4110. The thing is so freaking loud

December 16, 2005 at 6:38 pm in reply to: HUGE MediaVault Dual Max 1200 w/ SCSI card – Ebay LAST DAYI might be interested … I have a new g5 quad, would this array work? What is available in the pci express world to control? Also, what kind of a reserve are u thinking? I really don’t want to start bidding just to find out.

Thanks guys… well I have had some drive problems in the past month …(one disappeared from the raid and left the material on it lost in it’s wake) and now I notice that even when I completely reformat the drives and stripe again, I am getting pretty slow write speeds… 50 vs read @ 120 and still getting the jerky captures with 99% of the drive capacity available. Do these drives wear out? Geeez only had em a year or so.

Hey thanks guys. I have a swiftdata in the g5 and this project is using a raid 0 with about 39% of capacity available but does seem a lot slower than when I first installed it. I am getting read-70 write-40 (slower than my offline Lacie Big disk) So would you suggest Disk warrior? I really haven’t been defragging much in the past couple of years.

thanks Jerry. I did clean Tiger. Project is basic unc sd. It seems that the crashes are occurring right at the beginning of renders. I trashed prefs, changed disk designation, turned off spotlight. Each time I do a repair permissions though it seems like a whole bunch of repairs to widgets is going on…. maybe I will trash the widget off the dock.

My experience is that “trashing prefs” will not change this. I have not had any font choice in any cg text in FCP for years. Using title 3d is the only alternative and the only thing I can tell you there is be sure to save often because title 3d crashes FCP constantly. Otherwise use another titling app…. MOtion, Live type, Boris etc
Good luck
