I had the same issue and I can tell you that this works…..I have 2gb of ram and still had the issue. I set this to purge every 5 frames and it worls like a charm.
I also have issue at the faact that this setting is hidden, and also that nothing is set by default…

I agree with David about using stuff that you can modify. I saw a broadcast spot up here in Montreal for a large company…everything that was used was stock eyewire footage. I laughed, because nothing had been altered, and I knew everything that they used.

I use eyewire at work. But, I never use a plain eyewire…never! I will take two, sometimes more, combine them, key them, blur them, glow them, colorize them, use them as track mattes for other footage, bloom them…well you get the idea.

Good luck with the return of your DVD. It really sucks when you ge taken in. In the future, I would suggest dealing with the bigger companies, such as digital juice, artbeats, and Getty (Eyewire)….you will pay a little more, but generally the animations are of higher quality, and you get good customer service…Artbeats has great customer service.

I have Liquid 7, and it comes with smartsound which is royalty free. Smartsound has fantastic tracks, they loop to the exact length that I need, and I find that 1,000$ usd for 15 Cds of this music is a good price. I have heard some of the backtracks library…they have some nice stuff, but I must admit that I prefer the smartsound tracks (personal taste)

I’m not sure that you can use Red for frame rate conversions. That said, if you are seeing the soccer ball I would suspect that possibly the filter is applied incorrectly. You probably applied the filter to the clip, yes ??? With optical flow, you have to apply the filter to the timeline, not the clip, then inside the filter itslef apply the clip (twirl down and you will see V1 inside optical flow on the source layer track of the filter, change this to your source footage)
You should now see your footage. I’m not sure how your audio will fare through this, as Red doesn’t offer 3:2 pulldown capability either in the input, or the output. Trust me, I have asked for this in the past…… I have also asked, and will continue to ask for timeline frame rates, not project timelines….you can create some pretty nice film-like motion when you have the ability to mix frame rates, something I now turn to After Effects to complete.

I’m not selling Boris products…but I will try to answer this 🙂

Graffiti is a titler. Borisfx is a compositor. Boris Red is both.

When I was on media100, I had Red. For a while I had graffiti and Borisfx, but I became frustrated that some features that I wanted to use were in one of the products, and others were in the other. I got Red….best move I made.
I am not trying to get you to spend extra money, I have no financial interest in Borisfx, but if you get Red, you will be blown away by the integration with media100. It also doesn’t hurt that Borisfx owns media100. To be able to browse your media100 bin directly inside Red was awesome. Also, Red is a standalone (It is both, works in and out of media100). My workflow would be to set up everything in media100 and Red, then save that and open the Red engine…..why ???? Because I got better use of my ram, and a much faster preview and workflow.

I know that I probably haven’t answered completely your question, maybe not at all, but I am offering up free advice. Graffiti will do some cool titling. Fx will give you creative power for fx….Red will do both and open up media100 to become a powerful editor and compositor.

PS….if you are bringing the graphic in from an NLE into Boris, you will not see the alpha, as all of the NLEs that I have used do not pass along the alpha info to Boris, so you would have to import the graphic into Boris from your hard drive.

If you turn all tracks off, except for the graphic that has the alpha info (tranparency), you should see the checkered background. Do file-export-TGA and the alpha is automatically attached. I do this often with titles.

I would never hand over AEP files, under any circumstance. So I am supposed to create the layered text effects and shot treatment, then the company hiring me can go to some rookie to change the text and replace the footage for subsequent use, come on….be real.

That would be like Picasso creating a paint by numbers for others to replicate his work.
