Red 4.0 is in Beta, After Effects 7 is a released product…not a fair comparison 🙂

That is all I can say as I am under NDA.

May 2, 2006 at 11:56 pm in reply to: 3D image shatter

I don’t have the filter in front of me, but it should work the same as all of the other shatter/particle filters of boris….change the automate scatter to manual and keyframe the scatter value. By default, these filters are set to animate by themselves….

    Hope this helps,

May 2, 2006 at 10:45 am in reply to: Boris Red : How to Set Picture or texture on Rectangle ?

Create your card as a spline primitive, then choose extrude.

Next, in the controls window, there is a tab called textures, select textures for front and back. New front and back texture tracks will be created in the timeline.

April 28, 2006 at 11:34 am in reply to: Boris Grafitti new user question

I don’t know Vegas…so this is just based on my knowledge of how Graffiti works with other NLEs

You would need to apply Graffiti as a filter. Then open Graffiti (inside Vegas by saying edit or customize or something like that…there should be this type of dialog in Vegas) Now create your roll, then at the bottom of the Graffiti window select apply. That should exit graffiti and send your titles to vegas for rendering. As I said, this is only based on past experiences with other NLEs, so with Vegas being a little different I may be off base….

I’m sorry, but the question seems a little vague.

If you are wanting to link the sound without an NLE, then I would suggest using QT PRO…

If you want to add sound to a Boris render inside an NLE, well that is obivously pretty easy.

If I am missing something, please repost.
Sorry for the short answers, but I think that maybe I am missing the question 🙂

    Nick, and Mark,

I see both of your points….really I do. I too had final effects on our old macs….we even bought the ice boards which are now gathering dust. I would love to be able to cross grade the old mac plugs and use them. Final effects did some pretty cool stuff.
But, I now have BCC4 and find that it does most of what FEC used to do (Doesn’t help you in any way Nick, sorry)

Mark, while Blue can be seen as the evolution of Red, it is not the way Boris sees it. That is why Boris doesn’t force anyone to get into the upgrade loop to buy it….that is also why they are continuing to develop Red. When they release the next Red it will be independant of Blue and should be priced in a way to reflect that. I would love to try Blue, but unfortunately it is built around Nvidia cards, and guess who has an ATI card.

    All the best

I also understand your frustration, but by the same token, Boris bought media100 which came with final effects. Also, the so-called upgrade from Red to Blue is not an upgrade….Blue is a seperate program, Boris is being generous and offering Red users the chance to get their new Blue for half price…..pretty nice of them, if you ask me.

Nick, have you contacted Borisfx with your concerns…I have always found them to be very helpful

April 14, 2006 at 3:55 pm in reply to: how can I do this.

I would make a large comp that would fit all of your text, then put that comp in a comp that is normal sized for your output. Position the layer on x so that you see the first word at the left of the screen and use the offset filter.
