I’ll be honest, I’d be against anything that takes away traffic from this site.
The owners of the Creative Cow have worked hard to be in a pretty good system. Sure, you don’t always get an answer within 10 minutes, but most questions do get answered quite quickly. I have been with the Creative Cow since day one, and am not looking to leave anytime soon.
Maybe a good solution would be to have a chat system in place here at the COW. I’m not sure of the feasibility of this, maybe if the Lindebooms read this they can let us know, if not, then I will keep doing this as I always have.
Thanks

Make sure on the scatter wipe that you change the drop down from linear to custom on the scatter wipe tab the setting is found under scatter wipe type….this will enable your gradient, otherwise you are only doing a linear wipe, thus changes to your gradient will do nothing 🙂

I would have the first chapter to explain basics, the rest to do real world projects.

Thanks for the advice.
If I produce a DVD, it will be part of the CreativeCow master series. It will not be a basic DVD on this button does this, but rather an advanced training set showing things like displacement maps etc.

Use a gradient along with the scatter wipe tab (Make sure you activate the scatter wipe function check box). You may have to reverse your gradient depending if it was created in the right direction.
When you acctivate the scatter wipe function, there is a gradient track in the timeline. Drop your gradient onto this track.

Let me know how it goes with the DVDs and what is missing for you to get better…. I may be thinking about producing an advanced DVD training for Red 4 when it is launched. It would be great to know what you guys would like to learn.

I usually use vector paint as a track matte for the original for this kind of thing.
I set the shift paint records to capture in realtime, then trace the original element. Upon completion, I set the vector paint to animate all strokes, then adjsut the playback speed of vector paint accordingly.Mark

I agree with Peter that the fire will never look like true fire….that said, you can get pretty good results by playing around with the filter…
Here are some points to look at…
The default texture when the filter is opened is too wide….scale down the x scale of the texture. Also, speed up the texture.
I also like to add a little wind and some randomness.
Depending on the fire that you want, you may get better results using the noise map filter and tritone…

This can be done…
You can use motion tracking if the visuel you want to lock to is a movie file.
If you want to lock two graphic items together, then you can drop them in a container and animate the container.
Hope this helps

Mark,
Contact Boris and let them know what you want…. Unfortunately due to NDA it is hard for me to talk about, but they are very open to new ideas at Boris.
All the best
