    Hi,
Been using after effects for some time but just a couple of questions on basic stuff that I might be doing the long way round.
First…How can i animate horizontal scrolling text across the bottom of the screen like a news ticker? My text is really long , do I have to zoom out and animate its position or is there an easier way? Is there some kind of preset I can use where I could update the text as and when (live).

Also I have thre circles with opacity linked to scale with expression. the circles fade as the reach 100% scale to show 5the one underneath. Like a pulsing animation on a map for example to highlight a place. I want this to loop for ever. How can I easily achieve this? Do I render out and loop reulting file in interpret footage or ids there another way I am overlooking.

Thanks. I know these are quite basic but I want to know if I am doing things inb the most efficient way…
    Barry…

For really long text, I suggest using an expression by typing the source text in the “Source Text”. Create an expression for source text, and put your type in quotes. As for the animation, I am not aware of any simple “crawl” preset. Although, I will keep thinking about it. I’ve got a question posted to Media-Motion about this.

As for the looping, the following expression:

    loopOut(type = “cycle”, numKeyframes = 0)

..will continuously loop from the last fram back to the first. Make sure your last keyframe and first keyframe are identical.

I would make a large comp that would fit all of your text, then put that comp in a comp that is normal sized for your output. Position the layer on x so that you see the first word at the left of the screen and use the offset filter.

    Thanks,

If using the 3 circles example as before would I have to precompose the three layers then apply the loop out expression to what parameter?

If I have to do this I may as well just use interpret footage and loop from there although I am not sure you can loop precomps in this way without rendering out. Which parameter do I apply the expression to?

Sorry bout this, new to expressions.
    Thanks.

I think Motion Tile (AE 7 check Effect->Stylize->Motion Tile) with keyframes on the Output Width might work. I think one of the Pete Ward’s plugins (Tile) might be useful here too. Just my 1 cent.
