Can you counter-animate the background so as not to see the edges (Use ease keyframes so movement is less obvious) ???

What is the background ??? Is it a solid colour ????

June 6, 2006 at 11:15 pm in reply to: Card wipe or card dance help needed

I can’t post an example, sorry, but what i mean by this is if you want to flip from layer 2 to 3 at 5:00, then make sure around 4:00 in comp A that layer 3 is visible (Layer 1 will no longer be visible, as it is on the back of the cards in the final comp)

    Hope that clarifies.

Create two precomps… One will be A roll (containing layers one, three and five of the PSD) the other will be B roll (containing layers two, four and six).

Now in these comps, place the layers in chronological order so that layer one cuts out when you would want it to, layer 3 cuts out etc, etc…

Now create a final comp and bring both of these comps in. Apply the card wipe to comp one and set comp two as the back layer….now animate back and forth between the comps using the card wipe filter.

    Hope this helps…

There are other ways to do this, but this is relatively easy and painless.

  • Try deleting preferences…it is possible when reinstalling your old preferences are not being remove…

On XP they are in c:documents and settings : your username : application data : Adobe : After Effects. Delete the entire After effects folder (Don’t worry, it will rebuild itself)

If you don’t see some of these folders, then go to tools-folder options-view and select show hidden folders.

Let me know if this helps

June 6, 2006 at 8:55 pm in reply to: No Text Window in Single Monitor Setups

This happens, it just sometimes seems to dissapear…usually it is off the side of the screen. Anyway, try in the window menu, there is a snap all home…this will reset window positions. Also, make sure in the window menu that text window is checked.

If neither of these 2 help, you may have to delete your preferences to Red.

I have had issues with AVI files that are over 2GB in size. I have not seen these issues in Encore but rather in After Effects. It is like as if the AVI envelope doesn’t get closed properly. Can you try going out to another format, such as QT ?

June 6, 2006 at 2:08 pm in reply to: smoky words

Create the letters using the text tool

Next, create a new comp and create the smoke using fractal noise

Now use that new comp as a displacement map and a luma matte for the text. Play around with transparency and very eased position keyframes.

You should be able to get something really smoky with this.

You can also dupe the text and offset the second layer by using blur and different displace amounts.

June 6, 2006 at 2:05 pm in reply to: Blue versus Green Screen

I prefer using Blue. I find that the green colour is brighter and quite often than not it finds it way onto reflective and semi-reflective surfaces more than chroma-key blue. I also find that it shows up on gelled hair more.
Of course a good amount of spill-surpressing will go along way in removing this.

Won’t a cast shaodw from a light on the object give you the result you are looking for….maybe I am missunderstanding the question… 🙂
