Create a new Null object, then parent all of the layers to that one Null object. Next, move the Null and the children will follow. If you are unsure of parenting, hit F1 and the help will explain it…or come back here and we will try to better explain it.

PS…if your anime layers are set to 3D, make sure you also set your Null to 3D.

TRy playing around with motion tiles…it can give the look of rolling film. Also you could try animating the Y position of your titles….parent all of the titles to a Null and play with some keyframes.

Ram preview begins from the start point of your workspace…if you want to modify the workspace, then hit B for begining and N for end, or drag the workspace handles. After Effects is not meant to play things back in realtime, such as an NLe would do.

I would serisouly consider reading the manual if you plan on effectively using AE, as this is pretty basic operations…

If you are hitting space bar to play the video, then it is normal that it will not play at real speeds….are you hitting space bar, or are you performing a Ram-Preview ???

Also, things can slow down depending on what you are doing….certain effects can demand a lot of processing….particles and certain lighting effects can really slow you down. A graphics card with more ram may also help..

A random expression would be more erratic, but of course harder to control than a wiggle expression. Also, if the wiggle frequency is high enough, then it would not feel all that smooth because there would not be enough time between wiggles for interpolation.

The simplest expression would be:

wiggle(x,y)

x would be the number of wiggles per second, whereas y would be amount of opacity (0-100).

To apply this expression….highlight the layer and hit T (transparency), then alt-click the stopwatch next to the opacity of the layer. Now type in the wiggle above changing the x and y to your numbers…..

If the dots are in the subject (not the edges), there is a replace method in the key effect….choose original source as replacement method (I believe by default it is set to solid colour)…

Just wondering if the Text to Speech will work in other languages than English. Up here in Montréal I get french projects, so it would be nice to be able to use that feature. Avid has a feature that syncs scripts to on-camera dialog….they released the French language version as a patch….unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance to use this, as few clients provide me with a script.

I am going to be upgrading to CS4 in the next few days. I am an Avid editor (Media Composer at home, Symphony Nitris at work), but the CS4 Production package looks awesome. I have CS2…mainly for After Effects and Encore DVD and never really use PPro, but with the additional functionality added to the Dynamic link I could see myself using PPro to get footage into After Effects for multi-layered projects.

I would load up the task manager while Avid is running (if on a PC…I don’t know if there is a Mac equivalent) and see what is running and how memory is being used. Also, try opening a new project, maybe there is corruption in the project you are working in ??…Just a shot in the dark, but anything is possible.
