As far I can tell, Avid removed OMF functionality for HD projects, so the only route is AAF, which works perfectly with Pro-Tools. AAF also removes the 2GB limit.
Our problem is that our audio post is done on Sony Vegas (Our guy, who teaches Pro-Tools prefers to work on Vegas) and Vegas will not open our Avid AAF files….so he has to go downstairs to a Pro-Tools suite, open the AAF in Pro-Tools, then re-export as an AAF and Vegas will read that AAF….not cool.

AE does record brush strokes in the Vector Paint….you need to hold down the shift key to have it remember the strokes while you are painting…then you need to set it animate strokes in the effect panel. There are various options for shift-paint records in the options of vector paint, such as recording the strokes in realtime. To control the speed after the record, you can play around with the playback speed in the effects panel.

For video Gogh I would play around with brush strokes and the median filter.
For the cartoon look Aahorn did some tutorials on this subject…

I had a client recently asked me if I could explode his logo at the end of a classy piece…he was amused when I said I can, but I won’t…I then went onto to explain the cheese factor and he was cool with my decision.
I have also turned down contracts when clients have asked me if I can do cheesy 3d transitions à la HollywoodFX (Pinnacle product)…I explain that as a professional I do not feel comfortable in giving my clients this type of product….and I also do not feel comfortable putting my name on it…luckily the contracts are extra work beside my day job, so I have this luxury.

If the piece is a dialog based piece, such as an action scene in a commercial, the music is always added after initial rough cut and arranging of the scenes. (usually a 30 second spot begins life at around 50secs and gets chopped down)
If the piece is a promo without dialog (I edit sports promos and commercials for a living) then I will cut to music. I may lay down a few shots while waiting for the music to arrive just to see how the shots work together, but I will make the cut with the music down.

You could also make a dupe of all of the layers, then parent these layers to a Null object (make sure 3d is turned on), then adjust rotation according to taste.

Just to be clear, you are not just hitting space bar to play the movie are you ??? Sorry if that is basic, but a lot of the people that I train make that mistake. The PC needs to create a render type file that it buffers to the ram for previews. Even if the scene is complex, AE should be able to create a preview that can playback at full frame rate, it is just that the more complex a scene, the longer it takes to build the ram preview. Again sorry if you already knew this.
