    Thanks Walter.

Apologies for asking so much of what must seem very simple to you, I dont mean to be just jumping into broadcast its more of a one off request. As Mark Suszko mentioned on this board in another recent post “Ask, Ask, Ask. There is no shame in not knowing, only in not learning.”…

With that said, would you recommend I change the edit to the correct uncompressed codec and render out, then burn the uncompressed QT file and work from there?

Thanks for the additional info, its very helpful.

Its been edited with the Apple Intermediate Codec, is that the codec you’re referring to or do you mean the uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2?

My client has asked for the edit so they can send it out, no doubt they’re even less aware of what’s needed, should I just send them a dvd and have them gather specific requirements per station/network? If you were in the same situation would you just demand the specs from each network?

    Thanks again,

    Marcus

    Thanks for the help,

The footage is 25MB/s, would it be safer to master out to Beta SP or DigiBeta? Are there any problems with doing this?

    Best,

Thank you to everyone for such valuable feedback, its certainly helped me here.

I believe the reason it bothered me so much initially is due to the fact that im quite modest about my talents and felt cheated by someone showboating, in a way. It didn’t help that the other editor had apparently badmouthed my work.

Either way, I really appreciate all the comments and many of them will remain in the back of my mind until the next time!

Best of luck to all! 🙂

Thanks for the help! They were HDV and I grabbed a HDV deck to capture everything. Some of the audio has a cracking to it though, my sequence is set to 48 kHz, 24-bit and channel grouped. What can I do to remove the cracking? The footage was capture through a HDV to firewire 400 cable with no separate audio input…

  • Well im working on an offline from my powerbook with 2GB RAM, I would expect that to be reasonable? If I convert the wav files to aiff files will I still have to render them out to preview?

    Hi Russell,

Thanks for getting back to me. I imported using the DV-PAL settings and realized that when I changed my sequence settings to anamorphic it worked as it should. I didn’t capture the footage as anamorphic, though it seems to be displayed correctly – will the content have been downsized at all?

As a footnote, anyone reading this post looking for some help might want to check out this link I found by Walter Biscardi, https://library.creativecow.net/articles/biscardi_walter/realtime_sequences.php from the thread here, https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/200/876627#876630.

    Thanks,

Hey Walter, thanks for this, its cleared up a little headache for me! 🙂 Perfect for solving a problem when I don’t have time to be searching for the solution.

    Hi Russell,

Thanks for getting back to me. Apologies, the deck I have here is a Sony DSR 45p. I don’t have a capture card. I’m sure you know the deck, but found this online if it helps – https://www.promotionhire.co.uk/uploads/pdf/VTRs/DSR-45P.pdf

Can you offer any more advice?

    Thanks again,

    Thanks again RIchard.

Im wondering what the best way is to import the broadcast quality footage I have. As its DV and not HDV im presuming the quality is only suitable as 720*576? If I change my frame size to a HD setting and import the footage, will it be a higher quality or just stretched to a larger dimension and would this actually improve the viewing at all?

Hope thats all clear, and thanks as always! 🙂
