What do you mean by “are in” HD?

Does this mean that these tapes are specially designed at the manufacturer’s
for optimized recording with HD camcorders and decks?

Does this mean that there is HD material recorded onto a standard, MiniDV tape?

A quick check through Google (and several years of experience recording onto these tapes
myself) shows that the tapes in question are merely standard MiniDV recording stock,
with absolutely no designation for optimized HD recording.

They’re one and the same. HDV IS HD. If they’re shot HDV, you cannot use a standard DV deck to play them. You must get an HDV deck to play them.

Any MiniDV tape can be used for HDV recording. Those considered “Master” tapes and “Optimized” for HDV recording are always preferred, but as we have seen in our shop from tapes dropped off by shooters, any MiniDV tape will work.

Thanks for the help! They were HDV and I grabbed a HDV deck to capture everything. Some of the audio has a cracking to it though, my sequence is set to 48 kHz, 24-bit and channel grouped. What can I do to remove the cracking? The footage was capture through a HDV to firewire 400 cable with no separate audio input…
