OK, so doing it in 59.94 is OK, but if 29.97 is 2 fields, then 59.94 is still 2 fields?
And which codec to use for output? Since it’s animation, everything is rendered out with the Animation Codec, but for the output to tape, Should I use the Apple Pro Res codec, or just use Animation throughout the whole process… I’m afraid if I use Animation for PTT, I might get into dropped frames problems..
thx.
Marc.
Thanks!

Hi Tom..
thanks for the tip, but It does capture, but after my 2 seconds of good capturing then it starts to freeze every frame or so… I gave it a try, maybe it was only on the screen that it was freezing, but no.. the final captured footage is jerky as well…
I guess I’ll be putting a Canon GL2 up for sale soon 🙂
thanks,

Sorry for the delay in responding… I didn’t check the email option….
Actually I’m on 10.4.9… and even though it tells me that I can save, it seems to always corrupt the file…

I don’t know if I should post this here or in After Effects, but here goes…
I’ve exported a clip to be worked on in AE, in AE the clip shows as 1280 x 720… if I keep the same pixel aspect ratio, the image is distorded (too wide) since the comp is at 960×720….If I set the pixel aspect ratio on the clip to square then it fits the comp, but the comp is set to DVCPro 720, and the pixel aspect ratio is HDV/DVCPro HD anamorphic 16:9…. I need to bring that back into Final cut pro, should I go with square pixel ratio on my clips to get right after in FCP, or do I need to work in 1280 x 720 square all the way…
thanks,

September 24, 2006 at 12:02 am in reply to: Cameraman will work for free, LA/Orange CountyLike Tom said, confidence is the key… I you know what your doing, then go out there and sell that… if you don’t know what your doing and want to learn, then make some money doing it.
don’t forget that we make a living out of this, everytime somebody does that, someone looses a job. it slowly kills the market…
I’ve lost jobs to guys who had a 9-5 job, and was doing that on the side… For a day of shoot + 1 day editing, he charged $200.00…
don’t do that, you’ll see it doesn’t pay in the long run…

The division of the footage is normal, DV footage has this extra feature of having the time of day stamped on it, so it detects the cuts…
it can also break down a whole dv sequence by going to the menu “Mark”, then DV start/stop detect which will create markers on your footage…
For the rendere part, are u using FCP 5… If so, change your rt setting (to the left of your actual timeline) to Dynamic playback and FPS..
That will allow you to play it back in realtime… you probably have your settings set to safe (which renders everything)… put them to unlimited RT (use that also if u use FCP 4, because you won’t have the Dynamic options)
hope that helps!

September 13, 2005 at 2:04 pm in reply to: Best way to add an effecct to an entire sequence?I am an old Avid editor also, and when I switched over to FCP, this was one of the this I was missing… but not anymore….
If you want to do a widescreen effect…. I put a SLUG on an empty layer, apply a white color mask, make it the size you want, then invert it… and voila you now have a layer on top of all the other ones, that you can still control…
For other effects, again apply them to a SLUG on top of the other layer, then right-click on the SLUG layer, change your composite mode to ADD and you now have full control over the bottom layers…
if you want to modify an effect on just one clip, just use the B shortcut to give you a RAZOR, and cut the SLUG… I prefer using the RAZOR over the ADD EDIT, because ADD EDIT will cut all the layers, instead of just the one you want…
that’s it for now…
have fun,
