did you record interlaced? could also be that you recorded progressive but fcpx interpreted the footage as interlaced. you can force progressive/upper or lower first in the inspector in settings view under ‘field dominance override’.

Nope, there’s some kind of hardware problem, randomly crashes every couple of weeks, reboots, marks disks as faulty. Already swapped RAM. Yesterday I changed the power supply, hopefully that solves it.

We have daily backups to a backup NAS via Hybrid Backup Sync. But HBS keeps the NFD encoding, so I’d be the same situation as I’m in now. Inaccessible folders via SMB.

I guess I’d have to copy with rsync and –iconv=utf-8-mac,utf-8 options when I want to migrate to another NAS.

At the moment I’m testing converting filenames with convmv again – it works, but doesn’t convert Aliases/symlinks – those are invisible via SMB, which is not that ideal when FCPX links to the original media via links in the library-bundle. Then relinking doesn’t work in FCPX because the links are technically there. Deleting the media folders containing the aliases inside the bundle or duplicating the library and then relinking seems to work – but thats what I’m testing today.

Yeah… I’ve had plans to switch to SMB since 2018, but sadly its a bit complicated to switch with millions of NFD encoded file and folder names. And NFS worked ok until Catalina happened. Plus no time to really research that stuff and actually do it.

But now that our 1685 seems to die, we’ll have to move everything to another NAS soon anyway. No better time than a catastrophic storage failure to do such a transition. Happy holidays to me I guess.

    Hi Bob!

What is this fix this you have? those nvram settings, server perfomance mode?

I think our Catalina users have the same problem and nothing seems to help.

Qnap 1685 connected via NFSv3. I’d love to switch to SMB but that isn’t too easy a task because of UTF NFC/NFD encoding issues.

I’ve had similar issues a few times, most of the time it’s a bugged or old plugin or some kind of file permissions issue with render files or optimized media.

Are FCPX and ColorFinale or any other plugins updated to the latest version?

If you’re using ColorFinale only for applying LUTs you could just use the built in Camera-LUT function in FCPX instead (in the info inspector, metadata-view general).

You could export an XML of your timeline, create a new library and import the XML into that.

You could try deleting the cache files manually. It’s either a ***.fcpcache file in the cache storage location you specified, or the “Render Files” and “Analysis Files” Folders inside the fcpbundle if you have set the location to “In Library”.

I would not burn directly to DVD disk or image but render a ProRes master and encode that via Compressor or reimport it to FCPX, then do DVD export.

  • Google fcpx media management ????

    1. Create new library on your destination hdd. And set the media location to the same hdd or a subfolder in it.

    2. Open both source and destination libraries

    3. Select the Project you want to send your colorist and from the menu go to File -> Copy Project to and choose your new library

    4. Select the new library and in the inspector click “consolidate Media”

    5. Create XML from your copied project.

Theres a PRX button on the lower right under the timeline. Right click it to choose which proxy level you want – it then only calculates one out of every x pixels.
You can also specify a proxy file in each loader node which will be used when you press the PRX button.

You’re using the 360° version of the title. There should be another non-360 title.

You can convert through DaVinci Resolve, that’s free.
I think one would need access to your media files to convert an fcpxml to aaf via x2pro. I could be wrong though.

July 24, 2017 at 3:14 pm in reply to: Creating Luts

You can generate LUTs with LUT Generator. From any app, doesn’t matter – if you can import and export PNGs, you can generate a LUT.

Basically you grade your image, apply the same grade to a special image, export it and convert it with LUT Generator to a cube LUT.
You could grade something in Lightroom and export the grade to FCPX. Or export a Color Finale and Color Board grade to Davinci. I guess it’s not 100% accurate but it works really good.
