I recorded a 1hour concert , it didn’t stop and I didn’t loose any frames.. in 1080 50i format. if this helps…
I have this camera since it came out (was one of the 1st to get it here in Italy).. around April 2009. Here is what I like and what I don’t like. I have the optional SxS recorder that was bundled with the camera by JVC-Italy
I like… workflow on digital XDCAM (use MOV for Final Cut and MP4 for Premiere). I like the ability to shoot in many formats. I like the fact that is a real shoulder camera and the overall ergonomics. I like the HD-SDi output. I like the hot swappable SDHC cards (I use transcend). I like the quality of the picture. I like the LCD screen but you can use it only indoors (good resolution and colours but it’s reflective)
I don’t like… the noise in the picture in low light situations. The lenses I got bundled (the 16x and not the 17x). Sure as somebody says a 1/2 CCD would have been better. ND is crap but you can solve this with a mattebox.
I don’t like the quality they made the camera… The SDHC card slots are quite plasticy. The LCD screen woobles (started after a week) and in my viewfinder a screw came out so now I cannot move it back or forward.
Overall I think is a good compromise. Looks and footage quality (with some attention) are good so clients are pleased.. and that’s what counts I think.
Check this footage https://www.siroma.com/areariservata/ccow/hm700_selection.mov.zip It’s converted to flash but I guess you can get the original quality.. Has not been graded

October 19, 2009 at 6:54 pm in reply to: 3 month old JVC GY HM700 with dead pixel already???I got it tooo.. You can take it away just by resetting it in the camera. If I remember you switch on the camera while holding the DISPLAY button. Then you select MENU while holding the FOCUS ASSIST BUTTON (the one on the side not the one on top).. and you get an enhanced menu with the option for killing dead pixels

October 19, 2009 at 6:45 pm in reply to: JVC GYHM700 creates multiple clips for long takes. Any way to change that?ops.. sorry.. Ok.. I meant that you create different timelines where you put together the footage and then you create an extra timeline in where you sincronize the other ones using the multicamera function in Final cut… I was using “Aftter FX language”.. I don’t know much about Final Cut.. but I think the multicamera function in FC is quite limited giving you the ability only to sincronize the first frame.. so by acting this way you can make it easier. That’s all.. Sorry for confusion

October 19, 2009 at 6:16 pm in reply to: JVC GYHM700 creates multiple clips for long takes. Any way to change that?Where? I have PRE-REC and CLIP CONTINUOS (when talking about Camera Recording Options)…
PRE-REC enables you to record three seconds before you actually thougt of recording (this because it records in “ram” and writes to disk if you press the rec button).
CLIP CONTINUOS (i neve used) creates one big clip even if you stop recording avery time.. so you’ll find your self at the end with a single file (like when you capture footage from a DV or HDV tape)I don’t know if it was here you were referring

October 19, 2009 at 3:55 pm in reply to: JVC GYHM700 creates multiple clips for long takes. Any way to change that?No it’s not possible… This is due to limitations of the formatting system of the cards (I think is Fat32).. so files cannot be bigger than 4Gb. You need to make precomp and sinc.

I was one of the 1st ones here in Italy.. I had to take the Fujinon 16x bundle (guess JVC-Italy had a pack of old lenses to give away). I ma quite satisfied with the camera but.. sure.. it is noisy.
Being one of the first I have 1.05 cpu version and can’t upgrade firmware (need to wait or send back to Japan!)Same button problems. I agree.. it’s very cheap stuff… Also the LCD monitor wobbles when open. Also the viewfinder has a problem. A little screw came out from the slide so now I cannot slide it in back or forward.
Still.. quality is good I think allthough I am having some suspicions… Nobody here or elsewhere has posted some true color settings.. like if.. it is impossible. I always see a greend shade on my footage.. whatever white balance I give.

I was reviewing my posts and got to this one.. Sorry.. I didn’t read the answer at the time.. Still.. I have problems understanding what Premiere can do and what it can’t do…. If I import XDCAM (MP4 wrapper) I have realtime playback.. if I import XDCAM (but MOV wrapper) I don’t. Same filesize, samecodec, just a different wrapper. The funny thing is that Premiere can export in MOV wrapper and not in MP4… So.. I can shoot in MP4 wrapper, edit in MP4 wrapper and render only in MOV wrapper.. This means that if I reimport my edit I cannot view it realtime. Or.. If I shoot in MOV wrapper and edit in Final Cut… and then want to go in Premiere.. I have to stay with non-realtime playback.
Am I missing something?siRoma di Marcello Mazzilli
