October 7, 2009 at 1:50 pm in reply to: Blurring Street lights in BG of Night Shot Without Affecting Foreground?Well the first thing is to find a way of selecting just what you want to blur. You can do this with luminance (as suggested), with chrominance (lights could be the only orange thing), but also you can combine fixed masks (like simple boxes) for darker corners etc… Viceversa you can create negative masks forcing some parts not to be cut out (i presume the lower part of the screen). If the objctive of the the mask is to work on blurs then probably it is possible to soften the mask to reduce edge imperfections. I don’t have the footage (or a foto) so it’s not easy just to guess. Once you have an alpha mask then you just have to use it as a matte for the whole frame. After FX will do fine for me.

I think I’ll get it any way also with an adapter for my Sony Z1.. so if I have to get a new one for my HM700 it’ll do ok on the Sony.
My workflow with HM700 is….
Copy footage on disks (I could edit from the cards but I reuse cards and don’t want to risk loosing footage)
Archive from Hard Drive to blueray just the raw footage (note: Not video Blueray but data.. use br just for space)
Afetr editing I convert the project in a compressed version (remove unused footage and trim clips with a few seconds handles) and save again to br data archive.I did the 1st firmware upgrade (class10 cards) but I cannot do the second one (MP4) because I have an old (version 1.05) camera. I’ve been told from JVC that soon it will be out a firmware upgrade also for old models.

Hi. I prefer to write but if you want you can find me on Skype. Account is “siroma_marcello”.
I do corporate videos so I am half way through between weddings and cinematography I think. I think to rotate polarizers or gradients could be usefull.. still this Matte Box is quite cheap and adaptable also to my Z1 so I think I’ll buy it also with a 72mm adapter for the Z1 and then we’ll see.
I copy footage to the hard drive though I could work directly from the SDHC card.
I do this because I continuosly delete cards and reuse for other jobs so I prefer to copy on disk. Also, once footage is on disk I make a blueray-Rom copy of all the footage and “put it in the safe”. Finally after editing (sometimes is months afterwards) I make a compacted version of the project (remove unused footage and keep only used clips with a few seconds handles) and also archive this on a Blueray-Rom (not BR Video) disk. This is my workflow.I bought various brands and the only ones that are giving me no problems are Transcend. To speak truth the problems I had with the others were all mechanical. The phisically broke apart, specially the protection plastic tag, so footage was always retrivable.
I did the first Firmware upgrade (end of July if I am correct). Cannot do this one because my camera is Version 1.05 and this firware works only from 1.06. JVC said that a Firmware upgrade for older camera with the same functions (MP4 unblocked) will be available soon. Let’s see
Hope it helps.

October 7, 2009 at 7:21 am in reply to: A for a second monitor for my 20 inch ImacI am working with this and I find it very good: LG W2261V
It’s exactly 1920×1080 (no interpolation up or down if you work in HD) and has a DVi input.
It also has HDMI input so, if you do video editing you can view live output through and HDMI card (like Intensity Pro) directly on the HDMI video signal.
The whole thing works for me and it’s quite cheap. I got the monitor for 230$ and the Intensity Pro for 199$
Hope it helps.

I did on once…. check here… https://www.blueray.it/ita/SPECIALE_phenomena.asp
This was done on a very low budget considering is a full 52 episode.
I’m sorry is in italian. The show is about paranormal. The studio situation was shot in a museum empty room (black cloth in the background then we built the set with all stuff they had in the museum itself). We used 3 Sony Z1. We used live output just for a preview but we had tapes in camera and did the editing afterward. The outdoors part were all shot around Rome (we found paranormal stories all nearby for cost reasons). The final “paranormal contest” was shot in the same place, the same day, later in the evening (we took everything away and just used the black background). The fiction part was done by a young director in autonomous with an amateur actor company.
I created it, wrote it, produced, directed it and edited it.. and this kept the costs very low.
I am sorry I live in Italy and not in US.. otherwise we could have worked together. Hope this helps.

Hi Charlie.. I have your same camera and I wanted to buy a matte box from Image West as it was suggested to you.
How is the Matte Box… Works all ok?This is what I asked them…
Does a matte box have to hook on a rail or on the thread of the lenses? (mine is 82mm)
Do I need a rail anyway? i know that only ZACUTO produces a rail for my camera….
How many filters can I use at the same time?
Is your mattebox standard (that is for rail attachment or for filter size) ?
Sometimes I see matte box with rotation (for gradient filters or polarizers). Does your matte box filter slot rotate?
Would you have a bigger model to use with my wideangle adapters (roughly around 100mm) ?Can you help me?
All the best,
MM

Sorry.. you say… You can use that to export clips or sequences… I can only manage timelines but not clips. I’d like to batch convert all my MOV clips to MP4 wrapped format, not one by one inside the timeline. Is this no possible?
Thanks,
M -
Sorry but in Premiere PRO RES video appears with no real time playback (as in Final Cut). Am I doing something wrong? I get a YELLOW line over my footage in the timeline and my blackmagic card jitters when outputting to video In FC is live with no jitter.
