Once you master the trimmer, then it’s on to the media manager. For large projects it is also invaluable.

Director! they don’t push any buttons on the equipment! Useless… don’t films make themselves?
I watched an industrial recently, the production company was Florida based, they hired a local shooter to interview at a doctors clinic, shoot some b-roll and ship the footage back to Florida. The editor used more stock footage than was shot on location and the “interview” was pathetic, the subject was looking off camera and never connecting with the audience, mostly voice over was used to tell people how great the doctor was, hardly believable. No one from the “production company” ever went to the location, they made a “profit” and the “loss” was the clients.
I do not know how some people can operate like that, I’m 100% involved with my projects. They must have had a fantastic salesman to pitch that project.

The PreSonus Faderport is up and running, for me, an excellent device!
It took a bit of searching for the right driver to get it working (win7/64 VP11) I found a link to an additional installer which enabled the fader to actually move, otherwise it was working fine with the standard driver.
The fader itself is very smooth and writes a lot of points, be sure to have “smooth and thin automation” selected otherwise you will have a huge amount of keyframes.
I found a few negative comments about the rotary pan knob, not an issue as the “Proj” key is mapped to switch the linear fader to pan function. A non-issue.
Transport controls all work as they should, nice interface and sits right next to my keyboard, much better for me than the 8 track unit that had to be far from the keyboard on my desk. I should have started with this unit.

If you want to have the minimum amount of audio gear used; drop an omni from the ceiling and have one shotgun on a boom with a good operator with his own headphones. Record to separate tracks, a slight improvement would be to use multiple carotid mics to split up the group, and the shotgun. You will have overall sound and the shogun can isolate individuals if the operator can get there fast enough.
Frankly, for a lively discussion, 10 lavs all isolated on separate tracks and mix in post. I have a Tascam DR680, 6 tracks, you can gang two together for 12 and one set of controls. If I’m going to an edit I never mix anything on set, I save it for post.

SDI output, not HDMI, figures, more expensive eyepiece needed! but a better connector. The BMCC is about as “bad” egernomically as a dslr for video, but if you really want a professional HD camera, raw output, SSD’s etc. Check this out…

Quite a bit more expensive than the BMCC, but….. they were smart enough to use a 16mm film sized sensor so that you can use all of the amazing glass (primes, zooms) available for that format. You cannot touch a 10x or 20x zoom for a DSLR for anywhere near the entire kit price of the Ikonoskop and mags, lenses, batteries, etc, etc.
A “small format” camera, but looks amazing, has anyone used one reading this forum? put in your $0.02.

I decided to return it, even though I got it “working” it is too crude for what I want. I ordered a single fader Presonus faderport. I saw Sony bundles this unit with closed caption software for vegas, I’m hoping the interface is better supported and the single fader is higher quality. The Mackie is a better option, but at $1100 I’l experiment with the lesser options, I only want a decent fader, all the other switches the BCF2000 has are wasted on me.
I’ll follow up next week when I have the faderport installed and working.

“Downshift-edit” that sequence of buttons on the BCF2000 gets the automation working. What a nightmare! I had to find a template from VP8 on Sony’s website to get that info.
After using the device for a while, it’s not worth it! Too crude to make decent adjustments to the audio on the timeline. I think I’ll send it back and try the presonus faderport (should be supported as it’s listed as hardware within the menu for midi) it only has one fader, but higher resolution of points. I can live with that, I need something that is USEFUL, not with a lot of buttons that don’t work well, as the BCF2000 has a very hard time making a smooth transition and when you try to go over the work again, it fights your fingers, but the real issue is that the second pass is much worse than the first. The resulting “fade” has too many spikes to be useful.

When I turned on the system this morning, the BCF2000 still seems to work, faders move and control levels, but I cannot make the thing write points on the volume time line.
I’m now looking at the presnus faderport, it has positive and negative reviews as well. It only has one fader, but if it works, it will be far better than 8 faders that don’t !
Anyone have a tip how to get the “write” function working? I have it selected, but it’s non-functional.
I’m going to try uninstalling the driver, again to see if this function clears up.
