Can you export directly from within Premiere Pro?

According to ProDesingTools (Adobe newsletter) you can roll Media Encoder back to 2015 version (maybe 2016 version will work too).
EDIT: Just checked, you can download Media Encoder v15 via your Creative Cloud Desktop panel.

Do check what format the video was shot in?
If HD, make sure that your timeline is a HD too.
Then export H264 (MP4) out of PPro.

If at all possible, avoid PAL and NTSC.

Hey Nancy,

If using the USB port, it will be universal.

Depending on the operating system and security, the computer may not be able to see the drive.

Also, NTSC or PAL, you are most likely to be working in High Definition, or even 4K.
However, if you are referring to “NTSC” or “PAL” frame-rates, then most computers will disregard this and play back any frame-rate.
Word of advice, do make sure to use a universal codec for encoding your files, as not all computers will playback AVI or ProRes, even MTS can be a problem. So go with H264 / MP4 formats.
Then you also need to consider quality, based on the size of the screen or projector that your video will be displayed on. If quality is too low, it will be all large bricks of colour across the screen, rather than sharp nice video.

I had similar issues with my Mac Mini, both where it would go to sleep when I didn’t wanted it to, and at other times starting up although having told it to go to sleep, and observed it doing so.

On the first issue, after ZERO help from Apple support and several calls later, I found that there in the settings was two different settings that contradicted one another. Guess that it is the same issue when it randomly boots itself up – can only suggest complete shut-down, and then switch off at the wall or pull the power lead out…

There are other companies providing similar AE plugins, and you might be able to find a script that can do the same.

No worries, we have all been there, and sometimes the language of the editing package, most of them included, does not make sense.

Track selection, track lock, etc, are other “good” ways of preventing a clip going in the time-line.
Sometimes a Drag’nDrop of the clip straight onto a new track on the Time-Line can resolve those kind of problems. If that doesn’t solve it, picking up a random book and browse, or walk around the block, can do wonders to Premiere pro 😉

Heya,

You just need to do a conversion.

Premiere Pro might do it automatically for you in the time-line – However, if for Cinema or other projection out, that is not a good way to do it. Reason being that the footage is not locked, so if you transfer project to another workstation, there is a risk that it won’t give you the exact same conversion in the time-line.

Instead, maybe check out what the Adobe Media Encoder will turn out for you.
As you are going from 24 fps to 30 fps (Although I suspect it is from 29.97 fps to 23.976 fps?), then there is a good chance that it will look much better, than if your went from 25 fps and down to 24 fps.
There is a whole science of pulling up and pull down of frame rates, and how you “remove” or “add” frames.

Makes sure to convert your .srt files to a codec that matches, and at the highest quality + also create a project, where the “old” 30 fps files are not present. Just so you don’t accidentally use them, and have to go back and find and replace those edits later.

Apart from what you already are doing, I can only suggest that you try to add a Reference signal to the mix to see if that will stabilize the playback.

Might also be worth resetting the menu on the deck, but don’t want to entice you to go to a place where you can’t get back from.

Out of interest, are you working with Digi-Beta or Beta SP tapes?
And, not knowing your set-up, but if you disconnect In/Out-puts and just play to monitor, what happens then?
(Don’t forget to remove the Reference cable(s) too)

Hey David,

I myself is currently digitizing all of my old analogue Betacam SP tapes on an old BVW-75, and some of them are soo old that they leave a lot of residue on the heads.

Apart from turning the machine off/2-min/on again, I would also suggest maybe fast forward tape to the end, and then rewind it to the top. Just to make sure that it is not the tape itself that is slack (depending on age).

Although, it can never hurt getting the sticks and alcohol out for a good clean.

Not sure that the above helped, but at least I tried 🙂
