Cost effective version:

Plan out your shoot.

Or take existing footage.
Add Zoom.
Keyframe move left->right.
Keyframe Zoom in.
Add circular wipe effect.
Maybe used “hacked” hyper-drive / Dr Who circular move through animation of inside time-portal stock footage, or create it yourself.
Add circular wipe + mask into hugging shot.
If in a rush: Export clip, and play reverse speed back out again.

Then plaster relevant SFX and Music across the whole clip to make it fun and interesting.

That would be the quick and dirty way of doing it – do not over-think it.

The key to make this work is to use visual components and movements that compliments one another, and top-load it with audio effects + most of all, don’t make the effect last long enough for anyone to really notice it.

Just one take – but there are smarter people around here than me, who might be able to give you a better break-down of the video example.

Hey Ken,

I hear you.

The problem is that Apple Motion appears to be the bastard child that no-one loves.
I’ve got it, but not inclined to spend money on courses made back 2015, as development has been sparse on it. And, unless I use it daily, I might as well revert to A.E. where most of my plugins works best too (Continuum, Mocha etc).
Not sure why Apple hasn’t just rolled Motion directly in under FCPX, is kind of a mystery…

Having said that, like with PPro, you can also on MotionArray find a lot of templates that works well within FCPX, without going through Motion.

+ There are other alternative solutions such as BlackMagic Fusion (DaVinci Resolve).

Hey Noam,

Has the Broadcaster given you any other specs, such as iTT, CEA, SRT or similar?
Often when delivering, you have to give both a dirty master, and a clean one with a separate subtitle file.
Because of the history of subtitles, the format used to be very rigid for the standard to carry across different broadcast channels – it is less so now. But as your client is a broadcaster, I would ask more questions of them if it is not already in your delivery specs.

The other thing to watch out for is screen-safe-margins for subtitles.

Although, if really stuck and want complete accuracy, pop into photoshop, or similar, and knock out your template, or all of your subtitles to a format that works for your FCPX master.

Hey Ken,

Just make sure to check the license set-up on MotionArray, as they will let you use anything you see on projects. And the footage will remain licensed on those productions. But any new productions that you want to add MotionArray to, you’ll have to resubscribe. In other words, you can jump in and out of the package, but can’t be out if using previously downloaded content from it.

I am not a sales person for MotionArray.
So I should also highlight https://www.digitaljuice.com/ as they have a one flat fee for a lifetime subscription. I don’t use it often, but always there ready to be used.

Hey Ken,

I use it extensively for PPro, AE and FCPX + the video and audio library.
Currently uploading video for client to look at in the morning on the Video Collaboration part.
For another job that I am closing over the weekend, I downloaded over a 100 video files + 20 music-tracks, and AE logo animations.
And, when I get around to it I will finish building my Portfolio site on it.

Adding, that I can within PPro browse the library, select, and clip, audio file, template will be loaded straight into my project.

Although there are many “would-like-to-have-features” missing, I could not see my business function without it.

Maybe not now, but I would be very interested in finding out whether the AI can recognise not only different species of birds (and animals), but also specific individual features.

Just imagine for Natural History programming if the Post-Production team is dealing with a pack of animals, and you can choose to follow just one of them across all rushes…

Should be possible, but we need someone with a bird table and loads of footage to test it out 😉

Hey Brian,

Apart from potential less marriage, more cameras = more footage.

Although, if the camera only films when there are movement, that might save time and space on hard-drive – but best to get a camera that will include the previous 10 seconds before the movement. And. not shut off when a bird stands completely still 😀

However, I use Nova AI, which was originally developed for large scale solutions and archives.
It will allow you to upload your original files, and pull down edl’s.
Apart from also do a full analysis of vision and audio, best so far on humans.
But should in theory be able to recognise anything, including animals.

Please note that there are 2 sides to the product:
1) Video editing, which is still under development – particularly if you are coming from FCPX.
2) Video Analyzer, which is the one that you want. Please be aware that it cost money to upload, and depending on how much you want to analyze, that can be quite costly.

My advice is that before uploading first set of footage, turn of the setting for automatic analyzing, and within that you can turn off elements that you do not want it to analyze for, like speech.

Do note that if you want to export a clip for instagram or similar, that the editing module can do that for you straight oout in the right format + you can add logo/text to clip.

Best part, it starts from free so you can do a test without paying for it.

But the real biggie that is missing, even though Adobe is mentioned twice, it did not care to include Adobe Sensei. (https://www.adobe.com/uk/sensei.html)
Is this because an older version of ChatGPT was used?
How the questions were formulated?
Or, is Adobe missing a trick in their SEO/web-tags?

Nevertheless, maybe we should start thinking of Adobe Sensei being both a tool for “AI and generative AI” in Post-Production?

As it becomes everyday use for many of users working with masks and removing objects, it is difficult these days to live without the Content-Aware Fill function in After Effects – which, could rightfully be described as a “Generative AI” effect.
