Can you do incremental back-ups with Sony PDW-U1 ?
In his 1rst look at the PMW-EX1 Nigel Cooper mentions that the Sony Pro disc burner will first be a player, and will need a firmware update to burn, but also to handle the EX1 footage:

So I am not sure that the Sony disc burner is really what I need…

Same issue here with my Perfection 3170. Worked fine with CS3 on my G5, but does not show up in the import menu with my Mac Pro. However the Epson Scan works, but thanks to Rosetta. I hope Epson will fix that with universal drivers soon !!

  • I am curently reviewing Final Cut Studio 2 and did some tests with the ProRes 422 codec. All I can say is that they are some visible artefacts after the 1rst generation ! I used the test pattern from Marco Solorio (www.onerivermedia.com) and after the 1rst generation you can see aliasing on the color bars/circles.
I have posted the results on my web site: http://www.xplorerstudio.com/prores422
    source-pal.png is the orginal source
    ProRes422-G1.png is the 1rst generation (PreRes 422)
ProRes422-G1-cf.png is the 1rst generation with 4:4:4 chroma filtering (PreRes 422)
AuroraXtreme8bit-G1.png is the 1rst generation with the Aurora Xtreme 8-bit codec for reference
So I don’t think it qualifies for “uncompressed HD quality” 🙁 I know this test pattern is tough and far from a real wolrd situation, but it’s just like crash test: you wish you’d never go into such a situation, but you glad it can handle it !
Maybe ProRes 422 is fine for editing (especially if you work with HDV footage), but I think I would not use it for motion graphics or any kind of post. I’ll do some more test to see how it handles real world situations.

[uncompressed] “you are not supposed to use firewire drives on the same bus with the IO, IOHD or most other video firewire device that captures and does not transfer. you can use the PC or PCI-express 34 slot for the storage device be it firewire 400, 800 or eSata.”
So what would be the IO HD setup for a MacBook Pro (firewire 400 drive ?). Thanks.

Sure, I mean it worked in AE 6.5 but not anymore in AE 7 🙁

Sure this used to work until AE 6.5, but this does not constrain anymore when I draw a mask in AE 7 🙁

Pre-rendering did not help. I have tried that with a common typefaces.
Try this: add text, animate the tracking, add the glow filter. Composite only the glow (composite original=none and glow operation=none). RAM preview that animation: it looks OK. Then change Glow Based on=Alpha. RAM preview again: it looks terrible !!
