    Thanks for your response, the QT decoding is clearly the problem here then, as I said before the processor use is less than 5% during the export and the RAM usage holds at around 4GB, so again down to the 32bit QT application.

    Very disappointing really as I was expecting the system to fly through this sort of processing.

    Thanks for the replies, the system has 16GB of RAM but only around 4GB is being used during the export so the 32bit QT must be the problem.

    I have a linux based encoding system that has 2x 2.9Ghz 6c processors and that can do a similar transcode around 3-4 times faster than run time but that utilises a 64 bit QT library.

    I was hoping to move away from that and use this Premiere system instead but guess I’ll just use that to convert everything to AVC-Intra first.

    I’ve not had much luck with it but you are able to set the master track to output 4 channels in your case however I believe on export, you will be left with a QuickTime that has one sound track with 4 channels rather than 4 mono sound tracks if that’s what you are trying to do.

    I found a solution for this, basically if your file name is too long the timecode may or may not export, so export with a short file name and rename after.

  • A quick way of doing this would be to put all of your files into compressor (this is assuming they are already captured and they are 4×3 16:9LB) and use the crop option found in the Geometry tab, you need to crop about 72 lines top and bottom. Set your output format, export and veoila you have 16×9 footage.. Once you put them into Final Cut you can set them to anamorphic.

    On certain PC motherboards you didn’t even need to ‘hack’ the bios, you can download a ‘hacked’ osx installer from a torrent and just run it during bootup, providing your PC is fairly up to date it’ll install no problem and if you need drivers for anything they can mostly be found online.

    I’ve tested it and it does work quite well, I even managed to do an edit in Final Cut, the only problem I encountered was exporting to an NTFS drive within my PC but if you were to format all your drives to GUID that wouldn’t be an issue.

    Obviously if you do this you will have zero support and it’s against the OSX EULA. I should also add that I managed to kill my Creative Audigy soundcard by installing the wrong drivers in OSX, I’ve no idea why it killed the card, maybe it tried to install some new firmware or something???

  • Sounds like a right pain, try sticking everything on a 23.98 sequence, I’d deliver at 23.98 too unless told otherwise.
