Hi Alex,

One method commonly used to move between Media 100 and other systems is to play the video out of the Media 100 system and capture it using the DeckLink or Multibridge card. Former users of Media 100 systems in this forum might also be able to help you with other ideas and let you know what works well and what doesn’t.

Hi Tim,

I found your Ikegami TM14-17RPZ monitor and it does appear to support both NTSC and PAL. While the SDI-to-analog convertor might be a cause of the black lines in your video, I do not believe it would cause the crash in Final Cut Pro or Motion at launch. Would you please attempt to replicate the problem with Final Cut Pro and then, assuming that it crashes, email the crash log to support[at]blackmagic-design.com. This should tell us if there is any relation between DeckLink and the crash you are seeing.

Hi Craig,

I believe the breakout cable is specific to the card and they are not interchangable.

However as Nico wisely mentioned, the files captured on one Mac can be edited and played out on the other Mac. Is there any reason why you need to move “looms” when you could just move the files on a Firewire drive between the two Macs?

Hi Jon,

The fact that your Multibridge Extreme stops responding and your SATA array sometimes fails to mount at startup, leading to the Expansion Slot Utility appearing, suggests something wrong with your PCI Express setup. Please go to /System/Library/CoreServices/ and open the Expansion Slot Utility. Are the Multibridge card, Sonnet card and graphics card all listed as “running at maximum speed”? If not, you might need to change to an alternate PCI Express profile to ensure there is enough bandwidth for all three devices.

In regards to your audio distortion problem with the Sony DVW-A500, you mentioned that the recipients of your tapes tested them with several decks and reported problems on all of them. However when you retested your tape(s) on the Sony DVW-A500, all appeared to be fine. Could it be that the deck on which you tested your tapes was the exact same deck that you originally used and that it has a problem? If so, you might not have been able to hear the problem but others would.

On the one hand, it is great that there are always new products and technologies that enable us to do more than anything before. On the other hand, it is equally great that the system one bought yesterday continues to have a useful working life for a good number of years. No one should make you feel uncomfortable about that. Hi Jon,

You should be able to use the DeckLink HD Extreme to play back your HDV material as composite NTSC or PAL video assuming you have shot your video in either HDV 1080i59.94 (Sony refer to it as 1080i60) or HDV 1080i50 formats.

Open your System Preferences and click on DeckLink. Set the HDTV Up/Down Converter to Output HD to SD. Set the Output for the DeckLink Video and Audio Connections to Analog NTSC/PAL (Y Out). Now connect the Y Out cable, from the DeckLink HD Extreme breakout cable, to your BNC to RCA cable and plug it in to your Sony 28″ monitor.

In Final Cut Pro, create a project using the Blackmagic HDTV 1080i (59.94 or 50) – HDV easy setup. Drop your HDV material on to the timeline and play it. It should automatically down convert to NTSC from 1080i59.94 or PAL from 1080i50 as you play back.

Hi,

While I am aware of customers running Multibridge Extreme with Windows XP on the Mac Pro with no reported problems, it is not yet a supported configuration as the Bootcamp technology provided by Apple to run Windows is still in beta. This means that Windows support could break at any time if there is a change made to Bootcamp. It’s a very tempting option but I don’t expect we will support it until Bootcamp reaches release status as part of the next big Mac OS X release codenamed “Leopard”.
