If you are using an AJA Kona card (other than the Kona SD), please repost your query in the Kona forum and they should be able to help you. We still have Kona SD driver support in the DeckLink drivers but the Kona SD won’t fit in a Mac Pro so I’m confused about which card you have. If you have a card from Blackmagic Design, please let us know which model of DeckLink or Multibridge you have and we will try to help you. We’ll also need to know which version of DeckLink or Multibridge drivers you have installed and the brand and model of your deck.

Hi Federico,
As with HDLink, the DVI output of Multibridge Extreme is primarily for HD monitoring. I would still suggest using a CRT for SD monitoring for best display of interlacing and any field flicker issues. If you are working in both HD and SD, you can use the DVI output of Multibridge Extreme with an Apple, Dell, Sony or HP display (23″ or 24″) for full resolution HDTV montitoring while also using a CRT connected to the analog outputs of the Multibridge Extreme for your SD monitoring. That will give you the best of both worlds.

Hi Phil,
Are you aware of any hardware or software changes make to your computer and connected equipment which happened in between the time that Premiere Pro was able to control the deck and then lost communication?
Are you still using a project that was working with device control or are you now working with a new project which migh have different settings?

Yes, when the Multibridge Extreme is set to output split HD and SD, it can output SD via the component analog outputs, while outputting HD via one of the SDI outputs as well as the DVI-D output. The other SDI output will show SD. Many people use this function exactly as you have described, ie for detailed image monitoring on a 23″ LCD display while using the SD CRT monitor for color correction.

Hi Dean,
There appears to be a free utility named EyePerfect DVD which can play out DVD’s via a DeckLink card. I haven’t tested it myself but some of the comments in this forum indicate that it works very well.

Further to Kaspar’s comment, both codecs will work fine on your 3-disk array. ProRes is supplied with Final Cut Pro so presumably that means it will only be available for the Mac platform. That’s fine as long as you don’t need to share files with Windows users. I think that all of the other compressed, editing codecs in Final Cut Pro are 8-bit whereas ProRes is 10-bit so it has some extra quality if you need it but are unable to use full uncompressed quality because you don’t have enough disk storage.

You’ve got a great system there and something has gone wrong for the performance to be so bad. Can you please check that all your RT Effect handling is set to Fina Cut Pro and also that you have created your projects using the Blackmagic easy setups. Try selecting a Blackmagic NTSC DV easy setup and then create a fresh project. Does mirroring work OK with the new project?

The Multibridge Pro has HDMI output whereas your Dell display has DVI-D input so you won’t be able to connect those together. The Multibridge Pro outputs YUV video at native video rates (29.97 and 25 Hz) and LCD computer displays expect RGB video at 60 Hz so that’s why you can’t just use a simple HDMI to DVI cable to make them work together.
You could certainly use the component analog outputs of the Multibridge Pro to connect to the component inputs of the Dell display. This works well and the Dell display does a fine job of displaying the YUV interlaced video on the LCD screen. The Dell display does the color space conversion fro YUV to RGB and it looks very good. It also handles the interlaced video and it looks good although obviously a HDMI-based TV has the advantage of handling interlaced and progressive video natively so it looks better.
Alternatively you could add a HDLink to the spare SDI output of the Multibridge Pro and this would enable you to output DVI video to your Dell display.

You are correct. You will see the automatic gamma change happen in both QuickTime Player and Final Cut Pro as the gamma issue is controlled by QuickTime itself and potentially affects any QuickTime-based application. Shake works a little differently as noted in the article referenced by Dean and “… makes no automatic changes to the gamma of QuickTime or RGB image files and sequences.”
This issue is a source of much confusion but at least is does mean that there is nothing wrong happening with your captures.
