Hi,

The current ExpressCard34 slots in Mac and PC laptops are too slow for uncompressed video and run somewhat slower than a x1 lane PCI Express slot. Computers and bus speeds are forever becoming faster so I’m sure we’ll see slots in laptops become faster over time to the point that they can be usefully used for uncompressed video.

That update just makes some interface changes to various Apple applications. It doesn’t have any impact on Blackmagic products and I’ve checked that with Apple.

Hi Paul,

Various of the Genelec and Edirol speakers are popular for audio monitoring via S/PDIF. We have a support note which mentions some options. Any of the Edirol MA-10D, MA-15D and MA-20D work fine with DeckLink cards.

Hi Brett,

Our codecs should be available system wide via Video For Windows. Please conduct these steps in After Effects:
1. In the Render Queue panel, click the underlined name of the output module.
2. Choose Video For Windows from the Format menu.
3. Click Format Options in the Video Output section.
4. In the Video Compression dialog box, pop up the list of available codecs.
5. Note all the codecs in this list. The Blackmagic codecs should appear here.

Now go to the other applications you mentioned, ie procoder, cleaner, virtualdub, virtualdubmod. Can you see the same codecs in these applications as you saw in After Effects? Are some or all of these missing? Perhaps just the Blackmagic codecs are missing?

Please let me know what you observe as this will help us to understand what is going wrong.

Hi Anders,

I notice you are using an Xsan system. Does the problem occur if you play back from a Mac that isn’t using Xsan?

Please run a test by playing PAL DV or uncompressed from the internal disk in your G5 and observe whether the audio dropout still occurs.

Can you please email the crash log for Final Cut Pro after selecting 10-bit to support@ blackmagic-design.com. This might provide us with a clue as to the problem you have observed.

What kind of disk array are you using? How many disks are in it and which RAID level do you use? How does it connect to your G5?

Does this mean that you do not see any SD resolutions listed under your Displays menu? If so, you must have a Multibridge Extreme and it supports more than 10 resolutions and so that’s why you can’t see the SD resolutions. Sorry about that but that’s a limitation of the Displays menu and you have to be a little unlucky to encounter this problem.

The solution is to again go to the Dock, open the System Preferences and select Displays. You will see the Display panel for your computer monitor. Click on the Gather Windows button. This will move the “Television” Display panel for your SDI monitor on to your computer screen but it will be hidden behind the first Display panel. Drag the main Display panel to one side to reveal the Television Display panel for your SDI monitor. Set the resolution to 720×486 and 29 Hz (or 720×576 and 25 Hz for PAL) and then quit out of System Preferences.

Now can you see the NTSC desktop on your SDI monitor? If you are using a PAL-only SDI monitor, make sure that the desktop is set to PAL otherwise you won’t see it. Similarly, if you are using an NTSC-only SDI monitor, make sure the desktop is set to NTSC otherwise you won’t see it.

If this still doesn’t work, try connecting the component analog ouputs of the Multibridge to the component analog input of your SDI monitor and see if that works.

Can you please specify which model of Multibridge you are using?

All outputs of the Multibridge are active and that means all the digital and analog video and analog outputs are active all the time. S-video uses two out of the three component analog outputs so that’s why you need to make a choice and choose between component or S-video output.

Hi,

The Warning message during driver installation would just refer to the Apple Uncompressed 422 codecs and I doubt they would be the cause of this problem. If you want to be sure, go to the /Libary/QuickTime folder and delete the file named FCP Uncompressed 422.component. Then reinstall the older DeckLink drivers and they will install the older version of that codec. Then see if the audio popping is still occurring.

Hi Bryan,

The Blackmagic Offline RT was never supposed to play out to an external monitor. In fact you’ll find the Blackmagic Offline RT settings are set to External video – none. It’s been that way for years and I don’t expect that will change now as Offline RT is so rare these days.

Most DeckLink users would use the Blackmagic NTSC JPEG or Blackmagic PAL JPEG for their offline work as it is very efficient for disk storage but monitoring is at broadcast quality as we set the compression to High so it’s beautiful to watch.

I’d be interested to know if you feel that Offline RT is still important and, if so, why? You’re using a G5 and a Huge disk array which is plenty fast enough for SD work so I’m curious as to why you might want to use Offline RT as it seemed far more relevant 5+ years ago when systems were slower and disk storage slower and more expensive.

That’s good to hear 🙂 Was the problem resolution the one documented in the support note HP xw8400 and xw9300 configuration? If not, we’d love to know what it was in case anyone else encounters the same problem.
