audio popping edit to tape
Posted by Teerav on May 9, 2007 at 9:12 pmhas anyone else run across this problem where when you select edit to tape, it takes an unusual amount of time to load the window accompanied by the system audio dropping in and out several times and a strange popping sound? if so how do you fix it? It wasnt happening before i updated the drivers, so i tried reinstalling the previous drivers, but its still there. it doesnt seem to do it on our other identical G5

May 10, 2007 at 2:10 amHi,
That sounds weird. Given that reverting to the previous drivers does not help, is there anything else that changed when you first updated the drivers, eg any Mac OS X, QuickTime or Final Cut Pro updates? Does the same problem occur (with the audio) if you use Blackmagic Deck Control instead of Final Cut Pro?

May 10, 2007 at 2:39 amno nothing else got updated or changed. i wonder though if something got left behind when i reverted to the previous drivers. i used the unistall that comes with the drivers, but still even after that, when i was installing the previous version drivers it said there was a newer version already installed. of course i chose to install over it, but it just kinda makes me wonder.
if i use the blackmagic deck control it doesnt have to initiate the edit to tape or capture window so it doesnt do it.
although in the edit to tape window, when i switch to the mastering settings tab and then switch back to the video tab it does it also. it is very strange. is there maybe some setting im missing?

May 10, 2007 at 3:17 amHi,
The Warning message during driver installation would just refer to the Apple Uncompressed 422 codecs and I doubt they would be the cause of this problem. If you want to be sure, go to the /Libary/QuickTime folder and delete the file named FCP Uncompressed 422.component. Then reinstall the older DeckLink drivers and they will install the older version of that codec. Then see if the audio popping is still occurring.

May 10, 2007 at 5:42 pmwell, that didnt seem to help it at all. one thing i did notice though, is that when i use the capture now function. before all this starting happening it would wait for timecode, so id have to press play before it would start capturing and when i’d press escape to stop it, the deck would stop as well. now though, when i use the capture now, it starts capturing right away whether or not there is running timecode and when i press escape, the deck continues to play. is there a setting on the deck that would control this?
