  • Is there a way to record to dvd directly from the hard drive without having to process the video using compressor to format it it dvd?

    Thanks Mark.

It sounds like it would be best for me to edit the clips and export them from FCP using H.264 rather than trying to upload my unedited .mov files.

At this point I just want to provide the station with footage they can broadcast as cutaways during the interview in the studio.

David I just burned a dvd and played it on a dvd player to a standard television.

The footaged is letterboxed as expected and proportially correct. I did not use the anamorphic settings in FCP at all eventhough my original video footage was shot using the xl1s in “16:9” mode. Since i am playing it on a standard 4:3 TV it’s not a problem. What would happen if I played the dvd on a wide screen TV?

    David,

I started out with the following setup (See Below) in FCP but when I went to DVD Studio it did not work. However I believe I have figured it out. Please scroll down to see if my new settings are correct. I Believe that the most significant error was to select the Anamorphic setting in either the Audio/Video Settings dialog box and/or selecting the Anamorpic option directly in in the sequence settings menu. With the new settings I am able to export to DVD Studio and maintain the “16:9” look.

If you have time could you explain what true 16:9 is on video and what does the XL1s do to achieve that look?

How do the XL2 and the GL2 work in 16:9 mode?

Thank you to you and everyone on the cow!!!

    -Luis

  • David,

Thanks for you comment. I plan to do more single person interviews with a lavalier setup. I would like to know if the following order of operation is standard procedure for what I am doing.

    Equipment: Xl1s, wired lavalier,

    1. record audio on tape with wired lavalier
    2. capture into FCP with settings at video + Ch 1
    3. Pan captured audio to mid position between L & R

I believe that I have attempted this before with the settings at video + ch1. The result was that I ended up with no sound on ch 2. In other words, when I dropped the clip into the timeline audio tracks 1&2 were part of the clip. Track 2 introduce noise. I understand that part of my problem getting to know the program better.

Thanks to the Cow at least I can have a place to ask these basic questions.

    -Luis

  • The question I have is does it matter if I have audio only on 1 channel as long as I pan it to the middle so that it plays on left and right?

    See if this works.

    Turn the camera on.
    Press Menu
Use the iris scroll wheel to scroll down to VCR Set Up.
Push the iris scroll wheel in once you have higlighted the VCR Set Up option.
Scroll down to Power Save and press the iris scroll wheel.
You should now have two options. You probably want VCR Stop rather than Shut Off.
Press Menu to exit the menu screen.

I don’t know why the cameras took so long to shut down.
