Glad to hear you’re getting work with your Z1.
We can agree on one thing, the most important thing is what you can use and make money with ‘today.’ It will be interesting to see how the market reacts when the HVX200 comes out, given that it offers true progressive and 1080. Hopefully Sony will eventually embrace progressive scan that way we can have some more competition in the marketplace. That’s always good for everyone.

As Jeremiah pointed out, I don’t think many are ‘waiting’ for HD.
I for one rent the VariCam off and on when I require HD. Unfortunately for now, the HDV post workflow is just too much hastle for me, and DVCProHD is already an established format with a proven workflow. Many of the post houses I do work with are already set up for DVCProHD, but I don’t know of many using HDV successfully right now. Hopefully that will change given the number of native HDV announcements from so companies this week.

Either way, whether it’s HDV or DVCProHD, HD is now well within the reach of many people, and that’s all that matters. I don’t think there is any reason to see HDV and P2 technology as a ‘us vs. them’ debate. For all we know Panasonic may have a P2 MPG2 based HD camera waiting in the wings, like the one they showed off at NAB last year.

I was only kidding about the ‘funky’ comment…
but I actually do live up north, right off 183 & 360, by the arboretum.
So, I hate to admit it, starbucks is a hell of a lot closer to me than Ruta Maya. But, I’m glad to say I spend a lot more time down at Dolce Vita (if you’ve ever been there) than I do at starbucks (not that there’s anything wrong with starbucks)

Actually, I just met up with Mike Curtis (www.hdforindies.com) the other day, and we met at the new Whole Foods, which has been making the news for being an amusment park of grocery stores. I thought that was a fitting place to go for lunch.

Speaking of Reel Stream, I just received an email update from them saying that the new and final version of the andromeda upgrade is now completely inside of the DVX. The only change to the camera is the addition of a USB port on the left side.

Amazing.

The product page does list a component output on it.
Now, whether or not it will run the firewire signal through the camera in place of a deck, I’m not sure.

But, given everything else that this thing seems to do…I wouldn’t be suprised.

Jan,

Is the signal being sent out the FireWire port the same signal being written to the P2 cards, or does the camera have to keep the 60p/i compatability through firewire?

Basically I’m wondering, if we go straight to a hard drive through firewire while shooting 720P/24, are we recording the 40mb/s 24P file, or are we getting a 100mb/s 60P with a pulldown file?
