If you are trying to playback a DVD on a PC without a 3rd party Software player (PowerDVD, WinDVD, Arcsoft) and are going to use Windows Media Player you need to buy the mpeg2 decoder. This decoder comes with all 3rd party players but a stock PC does not have it and therefor cannot playback a DVD. Usually a warning will come up telling you this if you do not have it and are trying to play in WMP.

Do not burn with a third party burning software. They ignore the layer break and burn the image how it sees fit. Burn directly from Encore or write to DLT.

In DVD Demuxer are you setting the CC settings to extract CC as a separate file? If you do not do this then the CC will stay embedded in the M2V file. So if you try to add another CC file it will say it already has Line 21 data.

To test you can try outputting the Video_TS and play in a soft player with CC display on and see if the line 21 data comes up.

Another test is you could get the demo of DVD Reauthor Pro and see if it has the same issues. Killer program and works hand in hand with Scenarist.

You should contact the replicator and make sure they accept DLT’s written with that model in combination to the type of DLT you are writing to.

If they accept DDP on DVD-R you may want to consider that as an option as well. However I don’t know what software you are authoring with so it may or may not write your project to a DDP image.

Hey Patrick, CSS images must be formatted at 2056 sector size. When the CSS keys are applied they use the extra sectors for key storage.

What authoring software are you using?

Check with your replicator and see what formats they accept for master submission, and go from there.

CSS needs to be submitted via DDP files, CMF or DLT. Those are your only options for CSS submission. The replicator can not use an image file(img, iso, etc) for replication.

Unfortunately no. I’ve been through this with DVD Demuxer and DVD Reauthor Pro by DVD-Logic. I think this happens because when a Set top DVD Recorder records it records in chunks. Each chunk gets it’s own cell. DVD Demuxer will demux every cell separately. I am not 100% on this but I’m pretty sure this is what it comes down to.

The good thing is if you are using DVD Studio Pro you can import them all in and sort by name, then drag them all into the track.

If you are using Scenarist you can use the “Add Multiple clips” option which will put them altogether in one Track as well.

There is no definitive list that I know of. However, I can tell you that Sharps players will not play burnt BD-R/RE discs. LG players need a firmware update, Some older Samsung players cannot play them without a firmware update.

When you say Formatting is slow are you saying it takes 4 hours to burn your disc or 4 hours from the time you press the Build/format button?

the log should say what stage it is in.

Using compressor first to get your mpeg2 files will speed up the process of transcoding in DVDSP. DVDSP will not transcode if your files are already in mpeg2 format. It will only mux and then burn.

The formatting process is just the process of burning your disc.

The proper workflow should be:
1. Encode using compressor to mpeg2 from QuickTime
2. Import mpeg2 into DVDSP and author your project
3. Use build/Format Build will create the Video_TS directory, format will be the burning of your disc

See if that speeds things up. Also Build to your local hard drive. Even though Firewire 800 is fast I have found that it can slow things down.

Does it take 4 hours every time you burn the project or just the first time. DVDSP will need to transcode your FCP QuickTime files to mpeg2 prior to muxing and then burning. This could take a while the first time but after that DVDSP should use the MPEG2 files in the MPEG it creates from then on out.

My suggestion is to use Compressor to encode your videos to mpeg2 prior to importing into DVDSP.

More RAM will not speed this process up much faster. You have plenty right off the start.

Also make sure you are not using these files over a network that can slowdown the mux time considerably.
