Hi,

Sometimes I use an XA10 as a secondary camera. I always use it in progressive mode, however Vegas did not detect for me it as progressive, thus applied deinterlace.
I just told vegas that it IS progressive via media properties.
This is not the only one case, few times I created screen captures with Lagarith codec. Those were detected by Vegas as interlaced too (which is obviously wrong).
Another thing is when the project contains some really interlaced footage. In this case I used to use Yadif deinterlacer, it gives way much better result than Vegas builtin deinterlace. When I use Yadif, I do it as the first media FX applied to the footage, and also make sure to tell Vegas the “lie”, it’s progressive. Otherwise Vegas would deinterlace it again…

Hi,
if your camera is not moving, you can try masking the window (pan/crop – mask).
If your camera was handheld, you can still try to mask it, but probably you’d need tons of keyframes to be accurate.
In this case I’d even try chroma key, that may work too, if your scene is dark overall, but the window is so bright that it burns. Chroma key set to white (or near white) may mask it out. Experiment with it!

And when you already have masked the window, place something to the track below, which you’d see in the night when you whatch out of that window.

Please, a shortcut key to close pan-crop / effects properties dialogs (‘Esc’ for example).
Currently I’m unable to close such a window with keyboard, I have to hit that small X at the top-right corner.
‘Esc’ would add comfort and save some time now, and spare a few km (or miles) of mouse travel in a long term 😉

I used to do it another way:
Find the first/last keyframe and select it by click.
Find the last/first keyframe, and shift-clikc it. This selects all keyframes inbetween as well.
Press ctrl-x
Find the new desired position of the first keyframe and press ctrl-v.
I feel this quicker and more comfortable than dragging around while probably there’s a need to change timeline zoom level back and forth.

I’m not sure I understand what you mean. What is a “kf”?

For what I want to achieve in the above example, I need the clip on 2 tracks. The topmost has all the effects, the below one only the effect(s) I need to apply to the whole image. Then I crop/mask the topmost clip, so that only a portion of it is visible, on which I need the “masked effect”.
I used to do this technique many times with Vegas 10.
Now I’m just exploring my new Vegas 13, and at a first glance, this effect masking thing looked promising for tasks like this, and there would no need to double the clip.
But seems I was wrong, it does not work this way 🙂

I’d experiment with color corrector first. Apply that FX to your clip, then animate it (using keyframes, you enable it by clicking the clocks beside the color wheels), so that you shift the colors towards red or orange.

I took the blur just as an example, because today I experienced this with it while tweaking.
But other effects behave similar 🙂
Thanks for the ctrl-drag hint. That does the job as well.
Usually I don’t care too much for the numbers, just look at the picture and make the preset visually.
I’d need the numbers only to apply the exact same preset elsewhere, but for that there are other techniques (paste event attributes, or save and load effect properties presets)
