    Hi Brian,

I just thought you may drag and drop the veg file to the empty timeline. If you do so, that means you add to an empty project that veg file as a nested project. This results exactly in 1 audio and 1 video track, this is not what you want. You need to open the veg file, so you’ll see all the tracks, events, envelopes, etc.

So start Vegas, navigate to file/open, and browse for the .veg file. And open it.
By default if you doubleclick a .veg file, a new instance of Vegas starts up, and opens that .veg file, just like yu would do it via file/open. But as you visited some Gurus, so who knows what exactly happens? I learned not to trust gurus, but different country, different habits. ☺
What if you start Vegas alone, and open the .veg file via file/open?
What if you open that saved-for-transfer project on your old PC? Do you get what you expect, or just the 2 tracks?

What DVD are you referring to? Vegas install DVD? If you bought Vegas boxed, you may want to download a more recent build (now I’m on build 211 of Vegas).

    Hi,

    I just detailed Steve’s suggestion ☺

[brian langtry] “the fact that I’d didn’t save direct to flash drive was the problem”

I don’t think so. The key is that you had everything for your project in one folder, so that’s easier to copy.
Wether you create that folder on an external drive, or internal and copy it just afterwards, does not matter.

[brian langtry] “why they loaded as a 2 track master”

    How do you open?
Do you open it via file/open, or just drag the .veg to the timeline (thus creating a nested .veg)?

February 9, 2017 at 6:46 am in reply to: DVD Architect 7 – compatibility issue?

    Hi,
I cannot really imagine what you described, but aren’t those rather 4 titles (not chapters)?

If they are, leave at least one second blank at the end/start when you render those files.
With my very first DVDs years ago I had the problem, that the first (starting) frames were just skipped, and so the thing felt like the player just jumped in the middle ☺ The amount of this skip was dependent on the player, but was never more than a second. So I added (and still always do) one second black at the begining and also at the end to every videos I intend for DVD.
Maybe this leading/trailing blank can help you as well?

February 8, 2017 at 6:37 pm in reply to: DVD Architect 7 – chapters don’t flow right

    I would somehow this way:
Set the “end action” for each chapter.
    For chapter 1 let it:
    Command: link
Destination: your menu page with chapters
    Destination item: Start
Destination button: the button for chapter 2.
    And so on…

  • Sorry, I have zero experience with closed captioning ☹
In that regard I can’t help.

  • Press “K” and keep it pressed while you hit “L” 2 times. that will play timeline at 0,5x speed.
Tha same works with “J” instead of “L”, it just plays backwards.
    Is that what you need?

    Hi Brian,

    Just do what Steve suggested.
    1. open your project on your old PC, old Vegas.
    2. do a “save as” to an external drive, but also check “copy media with project”.
That will save your project file, and also copies all the footages to the folder on the external drive you pointed to save to…
Assume, E: is the external drive, and “myproject” is the folder you created on it and save to it.
Depending on the filesizes this can take a while.
Than you’ll have a veg file in E:\myproject, and all sorts of media you used in that project.
    3. You can shut down your old PC, detach the external drive, and take it to the new PC.
Just copy E:\myproject folder to any location on your new PC, say for example into D:\Videos\.
After that you’ll have everything you need for that project in D:\Videos\myproject.
Just open D:\Videos\myproject\anyvegfile.veg with Vegas14 on your new PC.
Everything should be fine and working, except some 3rd party effects, which you may have installed on your old PC, but not on the new.
When you save that project on the new PC, you’ll get a warning for the first time, that the project is from an earlier version. You can safely overwrite if you don’t plan to go back to V12, otherwise better save to another filename.
Project files saved with Vegas 14 won’t open in earlier versions.

February 7, 2017 at 5:39 pm in reply to: Rendering de-pixels my video

    Hi Stefan,

I can’t remember I used a pixelate effect any time, but used other effects. Some of the effects render dependant on preview (render) quality. Sharpen is one of these effects.
If you set preview to best/full, theoretically you should see exatcly what you will see when rendered, while with simply
    “preview/full” not necessarily.
So this is just a shot in the dark, but maybe set preview to best/full, and adjust the effects properties so.
Other question, that you render to the same resolution as it is the project properties?

  • [Aaron Star] “Those work different from the way AVCHD decodes.”

Aaron, you have the point ☺
I never delt with proxies so far, but before converting something to XDCam, I told Vegas to create video proxies for a recent multicam project. That seemed to be the easiest thing to try…
That’s only a 2 cam shot, and already finished, but the struggling was just the same with it.
So I picked the 2 main avchd streams in this project, and asked Vegas to create proxies.
That took a while, but didn’t want to interrupt, and wanted to see what happens.
So read the news, and had a coffee (actually 2 ) ☺
At the end I had 2 huge sfvp0 files in the project folder.
And bingo, multicam playback performance is just OK, and guess what, GPU is taking its job in it:

(Note that external preview is ON)
I’m not sure how these proxies are encoded with what resolution, they have definitely less detail – I don’t care, for doing the multicam edit this does the job.
Setting preview quality anything above “preview” results in using the original materials, I see the details coming back ☺

So I learned the lesson: I need the proxies for multicam.
    Thank you Aaron!

    Best regards

  • Hi Aaron,

    thanks for your input!

[Aaron Star] “Did you try any other codecs like XDCAM or Cineform?”

Not yet, but I’ll give it a try a tomorrow. I’ll come back with the result.
I don’t need very good preview quality when in multicam. Of course I tried to lower preview quality, I even went down to draft/quarter, bypassed all effects. That resulted an ugly pixelated picture but with the same preview fps – LOL.
I have 2 identical monitors, those attach to the videocard, one with DVI-D to the cards DVI output, the second via displayport (with an appropriate DVI adapter, as the monitor has only DVI and DSUB inputs).
There’s still a HDMI output on this card, which is empty, I don’t use it.
If you switch to multicam, don’t you see a significant change in GPU/CPU load?

    Best regards
