Had a similiar issue. Our IoLA would not work when our Mackie ONYX 1220 FW was plugged in. AJA recommended if I wanted to use both at the same time, install a Firewire card into an open slot of the Mac.

September 24, 2007 at 7:15 pm in reply to: Problems with Kona 3 and ProresHQ-SOLVED!

We recently upgraded 2 of our edit suites with a couple top-o-the-line MacPros with 8 GB RAM. One system is a Kona 3, the other a Kona LHe. I’m a bit disappointed in hearing about the 2GB RAM limit issue, mainly because I religiously check with AJA support before performing any hardware or software upgrade. I wasn’t told anything about this RAM issue.

While we’ve had no issues yet (haven’t had the need for ProRes), we do have 3 major HD projects scheduled for October and I was planning on using ProRes. At least now I know to just try a couple clips before making a huge workflow commitment.

Got the same issue here (having the last 5 seconds cut off an audio file). We’re running Compressor 3.0.1 and QT 7.2 as well. We can work around the problem, but it looks like we’ll be waiting for an update.

Have you tried running Disk Warrior on your drives? It may find some directory errors on your disks that it can repair. It’s worked for me in the past.

    Good Luck!

We haven’t found a way using Motion (we’re on version 2). We accomplished the effect using AE.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Jeremy. Turns out that the footage was shot in 24P Advanced. We were able to capture at 29.97, then use Cinema Tools to perform the reverse telecine so we could edit in 23.98 timeline.

    Hello Fred,

Some of the problems you’ve been describing makes me think you’re having directory issues with your media drives and/or the main hard drive on your Mac. Try getting a copy of Disk Warrior and check your drive directories. That program has saved me more than once.

    Good luck!

On our Kona 2 system (the one that’s working just fine) we’re running a 7TB XRAID striped to RAID 50. The Kona LH system is running an older 2TB XRAID striped to RAID 50. The LH system also connects to the XRAID via a Vixel 315 fibre switch. Our 7TB XRAID is a newer model (purchased Dec. 2005) and connects to our G5 directly. Following the recent software updates/installations, we were forced to turn off LUN masking on the 2TB XRAID, as the G5 would not see the drive with LUN masking activated. (These were recommendations from our VAR.) I’ve also run Disk Warrior on both the XRAID and the G5.

    Other info:

The 2TB XRAID firmware is version 1.5/1.50f.

There is no control interface for the Vixel switch. It’s either on or off.

Yes, we have AppleCare, and there is an Apple service center here in town. A couple things we’re going to try is swapping RAM with a system that’s working, plus we’re going to run the hardware test disc that came with the system and see what comes up.
