Russ,
You forgot option 4: String up your shooter by his thumbs! OK … that won’t fix the video, but it may make you feel better! 😉

I’ve always found Adobe’s After Effects to be superior at scaling. Might be worth a try.

Here’s what we’re going to try …
Inside our MacPro, we’ll be installing a PCIe to ExpressCard Adapter from SIIG, Inc. Plugging into this will be the Bridging PCMCIA to ExpressCard Duel Adapter from Duel Systems.
The gear should be here in a few days. I’ll report back when I know more.
Thanks,

Peter’s correct. Every time I upgrade I wipe the drive clean and perform a clean install of the OS, Final Cut Studio, etc. Although it takes some time, I never had issues.

By referenced, I believe Jeremy was asking if you have a sync generator hooked to your system, like the AJA Gen10? We used to have similar audio issues, but since installing the Gen10, all has been working fine.
Want to know more about sync generators? Search for any posts on the topic from Bob Zelin … the king of sync!

Ben,
Just got it to work. I shut down all programs and rebooted … that’s about it. Not sure exactly what did the trick, but I’ll try to explain a little more about our setup and the apps I had running at the time:
– Our I/O hardware is a Kona 3 with breakout box. RCA connections from the box to a Mackie Onyx 1220 audio board. We also occasionally use an AJA IoLA for making BetaSP dubs, but the ioLA is not connected at this time. Our Mackie does have the firewire I/O option for use with SoundTrack Pro and I know that I must power down the audio board in order to use the IoLA because both pieces of hardware use the same firewire bus.
– Other programs I had running at the time of the conflict included Microsoft Entourage 2008, Safari, NetNewswire Lite and Spaz (a Twitter client that uses the Adobe Air platform).
– My personal hunch is that the issue was caused by Spaz. I have Spaz set to play an audio alert when I receive a new tweet. I’ve noticed various anomalies on my system when running this program, so like I said, it’s just a hunch at this point. I’m going to turn off the audio notifications and see if that makes any difference. I’ll report back on my findings.

Ben,
Have you had any luck with this? I also have the same issue. We’re running FCP 6.0.2, QT 7.4.5 and Kona 3 driver version 5.1 NDD.

We’ve been using P2 for the majority of our projects, but recently had the chance to try XDCam HD. Importing the footage was pretty straight forward, basic editing was fine, and getting our Kona 3 configured correctly also went smoothly. There were two areas where I found P2 to be more desirable over XDCam. 1. Render times were longer with XDCam. 2. The quality of rendered video, in our opinion, is better with P2.

You’ll always get the best quality downconversions using hardware over software. You have a great piece of hardware with the Kona 3, so use it. Set your Kona3 to output a downconverted signal (you’ll have to decide whether it’s anamorphic or letterboxed) and record on your highest quality SD video deck. Re-digitize your SD video, then encode for DVD.
Good luck,
Lon
