  • Ok to Upgrade To Leopard??

Posted by Kc Allen on May 25, 2008 at 1:34 am

I’ve hesitated, I’ve waited, I’ve procrastinated. I’m wondering if its safe to upgrade to Leopard now. I’m running two systems, a MacBook Pro 17″, and the older G5 Power PC (non-Intel). I use Final Cut Studio 2.

Has anyone had any issues and have they been fixed?

    Hi KC,
There are always “little things” but Leopard works great.
Same than you, I have a MBP and an old G5. In both of them I’m running leopard with no problems.

    Mac OX 10.5.2-FC 6.02-QT 7.4.1
    G5 2x2Gh 4GbRAM-BlackMagic Extreme
    PMBP 17″Core2Duo 4GbRAM-AJA ioHD
    JVC DTV-17″
    SONY EX-1 . SONY PD170
..and always a big mess on top of the table.

    Working great here.

Its been talked about quite a bit on the FCP forum.

Leopard is fine, the only thing that has happened here on one of the workstations is Compressor stopped working. So I’m going to completely re-install Studio on that machine this coming week.

Don’t do an archive & install or upgrade, wipe the disk clean and start again.
there have been a lot of problems with Motion if you don’t wipe.

Peter’s correct. Every time I upgrade I wipe the drive clean and perform a clean install of the OS, Final Cut Studio, etc. Although it takes some time, I never had issues.

If I wipe the whole hard drive, can I reinstall FCPS2 without having to reinstall back versions? I think this last time all I got was the upgrade because I’ve been with FCP since vers.3.

Also, what’s the best way to wipe the drive? I was a PC guy forever until I switched in 2003, and there are still some things about MAC I’m not proficient with.

Lastly I do have some older software and quite a few FCP plug-ins. Will Leopard kill all that?
