There is a new Script to do this, just as True Comp Duplicator but straight from the timeline:
True Layer Duplicator, It’s 100% Free and you just need to select a layer, press Ctrl/Cmd+Alt+D to duplicate a layer and its inner hierarchy.

Expression Based counters have their flaws, but they they are easy to create and animate (until you tackle something like this).
If using the paragraph alignment don’t resolve this I recommend using our Counter Preset to solve the alignment issue.

Dan certainly cracked the way to create counters with expressions.
For all of those who don’t feel comfortable or experienced enough with expressions, or just want to save some time, there are really nice tools to create counters in After Effects.
One of them is Counter Preset which was create in the past year, that can create all Counters with a simple Effect UI.

there is a different approach to solve this by Linking the Source Text value to a Slider/Point Control and animating them.
Counter Preset is based on that solution so you can create any Counter and running numbers animation, with keyframes. I hope you will find it useful. you can get it here:
