April 29, 2011 at 8:38 pm in reply to: Monitor Calibration Effected by ‘Video Output’ Settings?!Quick Update: We are connected via component to our Beta Deck and SD-SDI to a miniDV deck. I just checked the SD input, no green tint. Just had to re-adjust via color bars after initially adjusting the monitor settings (phase, chroma, etc.) when the problem first arose.
We do have a BrightEye 54 Analog/Digital SPG & TSG sync box linked to the Nitirs connected via SDI. I must admit I don’t know much about this piece of equipment and the role it plays in the whole system. Obviously, it’s related to sync?! It has not been altered and seems to be powered up and functioning as it should.
Any thoughts on how to fix a sync issue? I’m feeling a bit clueless on the topic right now, but will start reading and researching.
Comforting to know it’s a sync issue as others have suggested it may be monitor degradation.

April 29, 2011 at 7:28 pm in reply to: Monitor Calibration Effected by ‘Video Output’ Settings?!Hi Bill,
Thanks for your response. We are feeding HD-SDI from the Nitris box, not component. All connections seem to be proper and secure.
It will be a bit of a tragedy if it is already giving out on us…I doubt we have the budget for a new one or even repairs.
Good to know someone else has been working with this and still finds it reliable though. When you say you’ve never had to adjust your monitors, are you referring to adjustment after initial calibration or from the get go of hooking the monitors up and feeding video through?
And of course, in my haste to solve the issue I started adjusted the image settings on the monitor (phase, brightness,etc.). So now should we pinpoint the issue as related to MC, I will be forced to readjust again! Oy!
Thanks again for your input!

Hi all,
Thank you for you replies. Todd, that is roughly the same location, all via Adobe’s site, where I was looking for details on the CS5.5 upgrade. Thanks for providing that specific link. Based on it, no it does not appear the never version will perform the same function as MainConcept Codec Suite 5.
And yes, Tim we are using the MainConcept just for the Ikegami GFCam. I currently have the P2 feature disabled as adobe does well enough on its own in that regard.
Any other suggestions?

I’m installing MC v 5.5 now to test capture that way with Adobe installed as well. Should work just fine I hope.
As far as a CS5 system we will most likely be building on an existing tower withe assistance of our IT department which is familiar with the Adobe Suite. And I have been looking at the Multibridge which seems to be a great equipment option. As my organization is a state entity, reselling equipment can be tricky…but it would be ideal. I’m hoping the head of IT here has some tricks up his sleeves and we dump the Nitris and invest in something more useful.
Thanks for all your input,

Thanks for your reply Alex. I must admit I’ve been pretty skeptical of the ability to use the Nitris with out the Avid, but have tried to remain optimistic. My best shot at getting it functioniong was to download and install the PPro Avid codecs as well as the Nitris device driver, but of course it still didn’t work.
Any thoughts on having Media Composer and Adobe installed on the same startup disk to be able to use MC just for DV capture? I have feeling that would bog the system down, but perhaps if only running one application at time we could get away with it.
I agree on the Decklink. In the bit of equiment digging I’ve done, it also stands out as a good alternate option.
Thanks,

This is somewhat related as I’ve been trying to find a way to optimize quality for HD footage burned to DVD as well. At this point my work flow is to export a full res QT out of PPro with an Animation or None codec then import into Encore. I generally let Encore automatically choose how to transcode the files which are normally videos 5 minutes or less, but have tried adjusting the transcode settings manually without seeing any increase in quality.
Is it recommended to go to MPEG-2 rather a QT? And if so, what’s the reasoning behind that?
Thanks,

April 1, 2011 at 10:46 pm in reply to: Final cut .mov files to Adobe Premiere CS4 on a PC.The Quicktimes should work just fine in Premiere Pro if exported same as source and not using a codec like Apple ProRes. At least that has worked in my experience going from FCP to CS5 Premiere, but I haven’t tried it with CS4. Otherwise I would guess the person using CS4 would need to find and download FCP codecs for Premiere which if needed would likely be available on Adobe’s site somewhere. Transferring the raw MXF files should also do the trick between FCP and PPro. Hope that helps!

March 29, 2011 at 3:42 pm in reply to: A/D Converter For Capture From Sony PW2800 Beta DeckThanks for your responses. It appears there is a plethora of options to choose from. So I’m guessing this isn’t feasible, but is it by chance possible to utilize a Nitris DX I/O with PPro rather than Avid?
That would make my life much easier, but I’m afraid that I’m hopelessly optimistic on this one.
Thanks,

March 28, 2011 at 10:51 pm in reply to: A/D Converter For Capture From Sony PW2800 Beta DeckThanks for your reply. Looks like Blackmagic could do the trick if need be.
As far as native capture apps…is there a built in A/D coverter? I did a quick test earlier today with my Adobe Production laptop which is a Dell Precision M4500 with an i7 core. Basically I unplugged the RS422 input on our Avid tower, which is connected via USB-serial converter, and plugged it in via USB to my laptop. It seemed the laptop recognized there was a device there, but I was not able to get Premiere to an ‘online deck status’ I’m assuming I’m missing the A/D converter to allow Premiere to utilize the deck, but perhaps I am wrong?
Thanks,
Lindsay -
It would be under the ‘Video’ Column in the ‘Text’ tab of the Bin Window. You might check that when linked to AMA before transcoding to be sure you are viewing the original format and not what Avid transcoded to to fit the project.
