I’m capturing from a DVCPRO HD deck – I don’t have it myself so can’t give you any specifics right now; I’ll be capturing with firewire with a firewire adapater that plugs into my laptop… I hope that’s enough information. I just noticed a program called AVS video recorder and am wondering if that would do the trick…

That’s great, that answers my question. Youtube does give you the option of choosing between 3 thumbnails, but no option to choose a single frame to display before you play the video. I guess that is just not possible. I understand that it is with vimeo however.

There are just two sets of jacks on the back – one for line in and one for line out – so I did the ‘out’ then there is a switch for channel 1 or channel 2 and I tried both of those as well. I don’t see any other settings on this machine. I may try another machine as well just to see… maybe it’s this particular model that won’t work.

Well, no luck. I’m not getting a picture on the camera or in premiere pro from the vcr. I did everything in the exact sequence recommended. This should work, but no go.
I have ilink turned on and camera is in dv in mode. I tried capturing just from the camera itself and that works fine, but absolutely no gig from the vcr. I have the three plugs in the ‘out’ jacks on the back.
If you have any other suggestions, I’m willing to try!

Thanks so much. Will this be the highest quality HDV? Will there be any generation loss? Would it be preferable to upgrade to a higher version of FCP? Although I’ve heard that some people think the older version is better? Sorry for all the questions, I’m completely new to FCP. Thanks again!
