And if you are shooting on DV another good tip is to use plug ins like Natress G Nicer that will clean up the color signal (in effect making it 4:2:2) before you chroma key it – makes a noticeable difference on the edging for sure..

I have been using the Color Keyer instead of the chroma keyer as well – much easier to tweak I find.. and even quicker to deal with then Boris plugins too.

This is definitely an area that FCP could use some improvement on…

Wow, this is a lame issue with FCP – limits one to only a upward progression… Avid has some issues with this but you are can always open a seq from previous versions (at least within a few releases). Kinda forces you to go all or nothing…

Walter (or anyone else with multiple systems) how do you handle upgrading a whole facility when a new release comes out?

    Thanks for the help!

Another option is to just export the seq as a quicktime file (what ever you are working in) and then use THAT to do the encoding in compressor or whatever…

1- you dont tie up FCP
2- you can unload it to a box with faster abilities (if u have)
3- i have found that to be quicker than from within FCP

Hey, no need for post ‘battling’. We are all here to learn..and there aree lots of good points being made.

That tutorial definitely helped me understand what was going on with diffrerent types of embedded alphas. And it also good to know how to handle what every comes ur way in FCP, thus being able to know how to change the alpha channel setting in the Format interface is also important…

It is also good to hear how operators favor one way or the other…

    Happy cuttin all!

January 18, 2007 at 1:13 pm in reply to: FCP on Avid Unity?

Gotcha, but I left out the detail that the facilty also uses Avid and wants to have both in house.. THUS I think it makes sense for the Avid side to have Unity…and then be able to use the shared storage of Unityt for FCP as well.

Any thoughts/experience on this from anyone?
