exported video all jacked up URGENT
Posted by Cade Muhlig on May 15, 2007 at 8:13 pmwhen i export to dvcprohd, photojpeg, or even straight to hdv using quicktime conversion, the video, in some parts (usually the parts with alot of movement) with jump back a second, for a second, and then jump back forward. compressor doesnt do that, but take forever to export.
any help? it’s quite urgent.

May 15, 2007 at 8:38 pmDuder, please be more specific in what you are trying to do.
Why are you exporting, what resolution frame rate, and codec are you working in and what are you trying to get to? WHy conversion instead of movie? What is the name of your first born, etc etc etc.

May 15, 2007 at 8:53 pmwell, i didnt explain much because there’s alot to explain about what i do in life. but since im sitting here waiting on compressor that says 5 hrs remaining, (while fedex overnight closes in less then 3 hours) i guess i should.
i dont know if youve ever tried, but going from hdv to dvcprohd 720p60 THEN to dvd (using compressor) looks a whoole lot better then going from hdv straight to dvd. and ive got like 2 hours to get a 1 hr video to fedex… do you know a faster way? -

If this is a normal workflow, get a Kona card for the future. Convert HDV to DVCPro HD (and soon ProRes 422) in realtime during ingest. Then you just have to convert the DVCPro HD for the DVD. And YES, this takes a long time because you’re taking an HD file and compressing / resizing it for an SD DVD.

Oh and along those lines, the Kona also does a real=time downconvert to SD so you can hook up a DVD Recorder to the Kona and burn a DVD in realtime. We do that all the time here with our Panasonic DVD Recorder.

May 15, 2007 at 9:13 pmOR you can get the Matrox MXO and a DVD recorder and output right from the timeline too…no conforming. This is an output only box, but if you work with HDV native, then you are set.
Or you can go the Kona route and capture HDV as DVCPRO HD before you start. The benefit of the Matrox is that you can then color correct using an Apple Cinema Display, instead of getting a Kona then HD LCD for a lot more.
The Kona/HD LCD is better, but the Matrox/ACD is VERY close…with the drawback of not being able to capture. But, as I said, if you already captured the footage, and want a low cost HD monitoring solution.
But this situation was one of the BIG reasons I bought the Kona LH…to output in real time to a DVD recorder. I was fed up with the long encode times and close delivery dates.
