Sorry Decklink Pro doesn’t have analogue in. That would be the Multibridge extreme.

Mixing different footage on a timeline is a BAD idea.
A proven workflow is to capture the DVCproHD footage across firewire using the DVCproHD set up then capture the HDV footage using the DVCProHD codec but capturing over analogue component in via a card like the Decklink HD Pro or Kona LH from an HDV deck with component outs. That way you don’t mx codecs, stay HD and don’t have to faff about with the HDV intermediates etc.
Do you have an HD card? I assume you do because you need to monitor it, right?

We have to take responsibility as to how things are going.
How many people here do a bit of shooting, bit of editing, do their own dubs etc?
I’m guessing quite a few. Let’s face it, the money isn’t there any more. That is why we all own final cut pro and not DS Nitris.
Each time we give a producer a bit more than they are paying for, we lower the bar. We are all trying to get a bit more for a bit less (us with kit, producers with labour/skills).
The BBCs move into FCP will be interesting to watch; sure the producers can all be up and running on an FCP rig pretty quick but what of years of craft skills and experience?
The industry has always been like this. Sink or swim, basically.
I’m not saying it is right but if you don’t like change (good or bad) then perhaps it’s time to diversify?Lex

Is the drop frame issue perhaps when it is being used a computer monitor hooked up to the graphics card (digital cinema desktop)
rather than as a monitor for HD via an HDlink for example?Lex

What are we on-lining for?
My facility has finally bitten the bullett and bought a online FCP HD suite w/ Sony CRT HD monitor (dunno which one) I want to upgrade my suite to offline HD and will prob go with a dell 24″ and HDlink solution.
My question to all you in HD land across the Antaltic is this –
How many consumers watch HD on CRT sets?
Surely we should all be onlining for LCD and plasma.I, too am interested in the panasonic but, as has been said – full res HD in ain’t

I have the tascam 1084 and similarly have thiese occasional issues.
The main problem is that it fights with a LaCie big disc extreme I have plugged into the fw800 port.
The 1084 has to be plugged into the fw400 on the front of my G5 to work but even then it takes some real juju to get it going.
I don’t know step for step but what sometimes works is setting the clock source on the 1084 to internal, turn it off, fire up fcp, turn on the 1084 watch for the firewire indicator on the 1084 to come on then open the audio mixer tool in FCP, put one finger in your ear and the other up your nose whilst tapping your feet together and chanting “it’s worth it for the control surface function, it’s worth it for the control surface function, it’s worth it for the control surface function”
I sometimes have to do this 3 or 4 times before it works.
Then, and this is key, leave the unit ON. If you turn it off you’ll have to re-juju all over.

Hook the extreme SDI out to the Digibeta and monitor the component out of the digibeta. You can then A/B the tape against what was digitized simply by pressing the stop button on the digib (set it to e/e monitoring)
Check the TBC on your Digibeta is off.
There should be no difference.
