how are you ingesting?

good luck…
my only complaint so far with catalyst is it recognizes but doesn’t use my intensity pro card….
-
i have no idea re mac problems (i thought they weren’t supposed to have any ;-)), but you could try using sony catalyst browser (free) as an ‘intermediary’ on the mac and see if you can ingest via it…

still ex1. am not interested in 4k other than for reframing, but given the cost of a decent 4k camera, plus the upgrade / new pc required to work with 4k as easily as i do with xdcam i might as well buy a 2nd ex1 😉
i think there’s a huge drive to sell more and more hardware (even if it’s not ready for market hardware or software-wise) and that any real commercial advantages (to us, the operators) are lost amidst the hype and bullsh*t. i am not against progress – i will happily buy new technology – but rather against that forced on us by marketing and advertising forces rather than pubic demand.
when 25% of my neighbours and friends have 4k tv’s i’ll seriously consider it (unless i have a client who needs it so badly as to pay for my ‘upgrade’).
as for codecs – i suppose it depends on how much work is needed to be done with the material, but even then we have a pletora of loss-less codecs to transcode to anyway.

i know, i know – it is very worrying. as i just wrote, such things are becoming so commonplace as to deter me from buying anything ‘new’.
the only problem with being on the cutting edge is you can easily bleed to death…
i’ll wait maybe a year till things sort themselves out – or maybe two and pick up a used bargain 😉
-
just to let you know there’s a few other people watching this ‘problem’ along with you…
from the ex1 onwards there seems to be an inordinate rush to get ‘new’ products out before they’ve been fully tested. i am NOT holding my breath that this trend will get any better – more likely worse…*
*and it’s not just sony.

can anyone point me to a good learning / technical resource for a competent editor moving from vegas to ppro?
most ofg the stuff i’ve read, watched is hopeless in as much as it’s usually long, waffling and not aimed at pro editors making the switch….

i’m all for spreading the word about vegas and how to get the most out of it. i really do believe it’s one of the finest nle’s i’ve ever used.
However, having taught it’s use since ver 5 in various schools and colleges through out the state, my first lesson is on how to use the on and off line manuals.
i’m all for helping newbies whenever and wherever possible – but i do expect them to be interested and intelligent enough to seek an answer for themselves before asking on a board.
if i have offended anyone, sorry. but i just don’t have the time or inclination to waste dealing with such sensitive souls.
goodbye,
