have to agree with rick. i am so, so tired of ‘looking’ at over processed video it’s a pita. might be fine for the youth market with video clips, after all, it’s mostly eye candy after all, but i’m now seeing more and more doco’s and serious content programs cheapened by bad (i mean REALLY bad) processing.
then again, so many people are trying to emulate the ‘look’ of csi and other us dramas in their projects that we’ll all end up believing that the sky really is a single colour gradient, totally removed from the lighting below….

well i’m in PAL land, so i can’t really say much about frame rates, etc., but it would appear you’re working with none standard avi’s (non-standard in as much as they are not straight from camera dv – which vegas digests happily).
my only suggestion is to convert the files, one by one if necessary to dv compliant format. there’s a quite a few conversion programs out there, ranging from freebies, eg super, through to canopus procoder 3. i use the latter on any files i get that are not from a camera (you never know where they’ve been ;-}) and haven’t had any problems since….

ah, platinum. i thought it was pro, never mind, still the same crap…..
you say ‘pretty much the same style avi’s’. exactly what variations do you have?
i learnt a long time ago to feed vegas what it likes (even knowing it’s supposed flexibility). if i have ‘odd’ formats to deal with i always convert to ‘standard’ format before importing.

i once had a similar problem – i simply renamed my video files one by one till the project loaded and asked for ‘missing’ media. pita.

i wish i could be of more help – i’m still running xp on all my machines.
just to reiterate what my steps would be (and testing to see whether vegas opened after each one of them):
a. uninstall nortons using

(i’d do this EVEN if vegas was running!)b. uninstall everything connected with corel – there’s been some mention of problems with corel over on the sony forum as well. how you do a clean uninstall of this product i don’t know?
c. disable DEP
d. run your favourite reg cleaner.
e. uninstall then re-install vegas, just to make sure….
other than that, i don’t know.

Disable DEP in Vista:
1. Click Start
2. Click All Programs
3. Click Accessories
4. Right Click on Command Prompt
5. Left click on Run as Administrator
6. Click the Allow button if it asks you for permission
7. Type or copy and paste this into the command prompt window:bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
8. Hit enter and you should see the confirmation: Operation Completed Successfully
9. Reboot and DEP should be off.for full details:

nortons have an uninstaller (cleaner) on their site. you really need to use this to guarantee getting rid of all nortons crap.
it might not solve your problem, but i’ll bet it’ll go along way towards sorting it out.
i have taken off nortons on about 8 clients computers (replaced with avast), and you’d think i was jesus raising the dead they were so happy…..

conference, broadcasting?
does this mean it’s actually going to be broadcasted, or is it simply, a video OF broadcast quality, or just the current buzz word in their marketing dept?
how are you meant to deliver the master? tape, hd, blu ray?
i would have thought your supplying a dvc50 tape, unless you’ve got a deck or access to one, a bit of a pain.
if they wand it on hd, i would ask specifically why? if your master edit is on your time line, you can offer them any number of formats, including original quality m2t, (that is, if you can smart render your t/l).

afaik, vegas doesn’t render to divx.
be more specific regarding what formats you have on the t/l and what you’re trying to render to.
