Not sure if anybody has mentioned this, but Magic Bullet Looks for Vegas is available from Red Giant Software as an upgrade for $99. Just bought and downloaded it this morning. Looks pretty damn good – lots of controls and adjustments. Compared to the normal price of $399, I think its rather good value. But don’t tell anyone, they might put the price up.

    Thanks Kim,
But i hope that everyone here by now has bought their copies long ago…if not…you have no passion for this field (LOL).
Grabbed a few one hour after it was released. I along with
numerous vegas users raised hell for months for its vegas
compatible release, and it was certainly worth it.

Seriously, Looks is an editing investment in more ways than one.

This is no doubt a minority view: I don’t much care for Magic Bullet Looks. I tried it. It’s fun to play with, once you figure out how to access the controls (play the tutorial on their site.) There are lots and lots of variables you can adjust. The interface is slick. However, Magic is extremely slow to render. And any looks it comes up with that I want, I can achieve using Vegas FX plus the 6-color corrector and render out the results more quickly.

I understand that for some people it is truly magic. For me it was a distraction. Back to work…..

There is a reason they call you Mister Wise, sir.

    :o)

    I couldn’t agree more.

Indeed i understand your point Rick in achieving the same output using vegas color correction etc.(one tool cant do all)
But i must disagree, magic bullet is not a distraction. It does
far more than just slapping on colors and tones…it possesses tools,
tones, gamma, diffusion, spot focus, depth-of-field etc that’s greatly integrates with the footage its prossessing in isolating, masking etc. certain aspects of the image in one sitting if you wish.
It at some point requires less work especially in masking and other areas with beautiful results, although the rendering time has always been an issue, but the render wait is worth it when you have the time
    on projects to spare.
I use it in collaboration with vegas color correction (color wheels). Having it as an color grading application to an editing workflow is a solid investment.

have to agree with rick. i am so, so tired of ‘looking’ at over processed video it’s a pita. might be fine for the youth market with video clips, after all, it’s mostly eye candy after all, but i’m now seeing more and more doco’s and serious content programs cheapened by bad (i mean REALLY bad) processing.

then again, so many people are trying to emulate the ‘look’ of csi and other us dramas in their projects that we’ll all end up believing that the sky really is a single colour gradient, totally removed from the lighting below….

    another old fart,

Sorry to tell you this, but I think we are there already. Everyone into the lifeboats.

    Kim,

[Kim Nance] “Everyone into the lifeboats.”

Perhaps we should plead for some subtlety and patch that oversized hole in the ship, at least to the point that the pumps can handle things. I don’t look forward to rowing, and boiling under the sun.

The pumps don’t work because the vandals took the handles.

Well, that’s what Bob Dylan said anyway. And who am I to argue with that?
