    Gerry,

No I haven’t. But if there is a way then I’m up for it! Currently I use Celtx to storyboard…

  • Bob,

Have you had chance to see Mark Spencer and Steve Martin’s podcasts at https://www.rippletraining.com ?

I believe the one on ‘Customising a title in Final Cut Pro X’ might help, with the new workflow.

    Sorry about the earlier post,

    Lawrence

  • Bob,

Maybe this thread will give you some hope?

  • Chris,
I don’t count myself an aficionado with Compressor but maybe I can offer my thoughts?
My caveat: I have 5 drives and two servers connected to my system though I rarely burn to DVD or Blu-ray.

I duplicate my setting for a client, rename it for a specific purpose and make the necessary adjustments. After which, I choose the “DESTINATIONS” tab in the Settings dialogue and set that destination there, IF I know I will be using this repeatedly.
IF, I need to send it to another destination then I can overwrite this default setting by; after adding the project to the batch dialogue, then your setting to it, right-click the “SOURCE” field. In the drop down, choose “DESTINATION” and then, “OTHER” from the contextual dialogue box. (See attached image)

This is, of course going on the assumption that the setting has not been configured to a DVD/Blu-ray destination to begin with and that I am not talking twaddle.

Either that or you can simply set up a DROPLET on your desktop, therefore bypassing the whole of Compressor’s UI.

    HIH,

    Lawrence

Have you tried deleting the render files by any chance?

Project Browser> Select a project> File pulldown> Delete Project Render Files.

But your thought on the fact that FCPX seems to be copying the media to the events folder has flummoxed me as it seems to occupy twice the size on my drives and I haven’t selected the “Copy to Events Folder” option. (I must be doing something wrong here, I’m sure of it but have been to afraid to poke my head above the proverbial trench line.)

I downloaded it from the App Store and installed it as wa over the top of Snow Leopard. I’ve never had an issue with FCPX, Motion, Compressor or Legacy.
Might say that’s a point for the App Store!

  • Andy,

It’s the best workaround there is, without a shadow of a doubt. My only problem with that is that I often find sending projects to compressor via the ‘Share” pulldown in FCPX, bogs down Compressor and FCPX.

I wait for FCPX to finish rumbling away in the background then CMD+E out; go to Compressor & encode from there.

A Batch Produce facility is sorely needed, please….

  • Mark,
I can offer no salve to your irritation, I am afraid, but I can offer a similar experience with an i7 (late 2011) MBP.
I’ve perversely thought of letting it run one day and see if a ‘China Syndrome” occurs!
All I can be thankful for is that it is not on my legs while it’s generating all of that heat!

One thing that might be a culprit and I don’t know if you have the same, but the switching between the onboard and dedicated graphics card might have something to do with it?

Off to fire up the MBP and cook some steaks,
