I think I should have come to “Dr” Garchow’s offices before the Apple ones!

As ever Jeremy, you were spot on.

  • Chris,
When I use “FILE>SHARE” or using the “Sharing” icon on the UI, I can specify where I want the file to go after encoding when I click the ‘NEXT’ button.

This doesn’t sound like the case that you are having though?

August 23, 2012 at 9:21 pm in reply to: Compressor 4 Quick-cluster stopped working

    Darren,
I saved the job and exited Compressor. (I would have trashed the whole set up but it would have been rather time consuming to recreate it again.)

I opened up Compressor again – checked my AppleQmaster settings again – I literally checked/ unchecked a radio button. (In this case it was the first one “SHARE THIS COMPUTER”. Clicked “OK” and then re-encoded the job and my virtual cluster was back where it should be.

NOW; saying that, if I’ve been running my MBP at the same time with Compressor running, on the same network, and have clicked on “SUBMIT” and placed a check mark in the “CLUSTER: THIS COMPUTER, THIS COMPUTER PLUS”, I’m finding that I have to reset my virtual cluster on my MacPro (even after my MBP is turned off) when next I want to use it in the virtual Cluster mode.

This works for me, Darren and while it may not be terribly elegant, it’s something that I’ve resigned myself to when this happens.

I’ll try and put something together and post it here on the actual steps I take; should make it clearer.

    Good luck,

    Lawrence

August 3, 2012 at 1:12 pm in reply to: Who prefers FCPX

I’ve been using FCPX from about 2 weeks after launch. Flip-flopped for one project between 7 and X (talk about double the work and late nights!) until I realised it’s here; it’s now and it can surely only get better. Took 2months for the muscle memory to finally break and get into the mode of discovery and yes, sheer delight on some aspects. At heart I’m a child, although every day I have to run a business, damn it… but I love puzzles. Would I have gone to CS? There was a moment but I gave it one more update and now it is the mainstay.

Maybe, the launch was fumbled. Maybe we didn’t expect Apple to “Think Different” that radically. Yes, there are some features that are ‘missing’. But I look at it this way: if what we have is pretty fantastic – for all the reasons mentioned here, then imagine what the magicians in Cupertino are dreaming up for the next release! (That was the child in me, apologies.) I’m still in awe at the quality and scope of materials that everyone on here produces. Mine is just a muddy backwater in comparison but I’m happy with my lot – very happy and I’m glad that I stuck with FCPX and remain excited by what I find and use.

  • Grace,

You can always insert just the video (sans audio) when adding your clips to the storyline by marking your ‘i’s’ and ‘o’s’ and pressing SHIFT+2.

Otherwise, post insertion to storyline, highlight your clip in your storyline; open the inspector (CMD+4); switch to the AUDIO tab along the top and upchuck the box in the “Channel Configuration” section. (or move the slider down in the “Volume and pan” section at the top.

Those are the ones I use.

    Regards,

    Lawrence
