I was the first in the state of Michigan back in 1993 to edit with Media100. Several schools, both High School’s and the University’s here in West Michigan were M100. Most all switched to FC when M100 was mismanaged by it’s new owners in the late 90’s.
Now twenty years later, I think I’m the only one left??? Met Boris Yamnitsky at NAB 2011 and decided to stay with M100 and upgrade -not switching to FC. Best decision ever to stay with M100! (thanks Boris & Matt) All my older pgms imported wonderfully into the new software. My new MacPro 8core/8gb ram w/2 apple cinema displays running Media100 is a big money maker, having paid for itself within the first edited project!
Just purchased a Sony PMW-F3 with the new zoom lens. That amazing digital cinema camera, combined with the M100 editing system, puts West Coast MEDiA in a very good position for the next several years!

So Michael you are able to work with 1080×1440 media???? How do you get that into your bins?? I have the latest version of M100 running on an 8core MacPro 8gb ram in OS 10.6.7 because I still need to run the older M100 codec that the newer OS will not play. For HDV I put the m2t files through ClipWrap (excellent pgm btw) and import to M100 which always bumps the 1440 size files to 1920.

We use CLIPWRAP for all HDV M2t files. It is the fastest and very best solution we have found, thanks to Matt Caravella at M100.

You can convert the M2t files to several different codecs. We use AppleProRes and send the converted files right to our projects media folder. With M100 set to the same codec, on import it’s just a quick meta tag change, then separate audio tracks are created and the import is done – very fast.

Thanks Floh, I thought I had everything set to ProRes. Is there a graphics setting for codec that I may have missed?

Highly recommend PromptDog… it has it’s quirks but the low cost and nice features make it a great tool to have. We use it with our 19″ prompter/people teleprompter setup.

I think Boris Red 5 Chroma Key set-up is ok. And may be all I’ll need for the future. I was just wondering what other M100 people were mostly using. In the late 90’s I had a plug in for M100 from Ultimatte that worked nice. For the last few years I’ve been farming out my AE work so I really know little about Keylight.
With more Chroma Key work coming in the future, I need to bring the work back in-house. I would invest in AE and learn Keylight if it were the best way to go.

Thanks for your input Dave, great workaround idea.
But it’s looking more like a menu entry goof now. Working with a 1080i timeline I was exporting 1920×1080 by mistake. I should have been exporting to match the HDV footage resolution of 1440×1080. Once I entered in the correct frame size setting….the Memory Allocation Failure did not occur. Odd that exporting as ProRes422 in the larger frame size of 1920 did not cause the same failure.
So in conclusion, QuickTime will not allow H.264 1080i exports to be pushed to a larger frame size from 1440 to 1920 period.
