Bingo! That did the trick!

My habit of leaving my property settings to 1080 HD, but rendering a Standard def DVD has caused this problem before in the past. A person would think that 16 x 9 is always 16 x 9 regardless of the resolution, but that’s not so always so I’ve learned.

I really hope you are correct on this one. While I have made this conversion in the past, none of the gear is available to me today. I was exploring this problem when I stumbled onto this thread. While the C10PS can output either D1 or D2 serial digital, and even do an 8bit to 10bit conversion, I believe there may be a problem “cross converting” D2 composite to D1 component. This is mentioned in the pdf I downloaded…

Parallel Input 27mhz, 14.3mhz, or 17.7mhz parallel digital
Serial Output 270mb, 143mb, or 177mb serial digital, separately
buffered (follows input)

It’s the “follows input” that causes me concern. I will be buying my own C10PS either way. If it works by itself, great! If not, I’ll keep looking for a Sony DFX-2100 Converter to add to the front end. Please let me know how this plays out and I’ll report my progress likewise.

Have you tried that device yet? I wasn’t sure that it did the composite to component conversion. Parallel to serial yes, but serial composite is my understanding. My orig configuration of equipment is long gone and I considered picking up the AJA VIDEO C10PS but couldn’t determine if it would actually do the job. I found this pdf and still not sure it settles the question.

I have accomplished this task with the use of two converters. First I used a Sony DFX-2100 data rate converter to convert the composite parallel to a component parallel signal. Then a component parallel to serial 4:2:2 converter. This worked very well. I used this system to copy 1″ tape played on an Ampex VPR-6 with Zeus video processor, to DVCam.

I realize this is a very old thread. The solution I should have given you last year was to shoot in HDV mode. When I shoot HDV with my HVR-s270 the time code is fine when imported into FCP. (from the compact flash card. You’ll need clip wrap to assist the importing.)

Not so when I shoot standard def .avi or dv.

I’ve been informed that this was an Azden wireless system. Very inexpensive. A fresh battery apparently did the trick. So in addition to other shortcomings of this system, it apparently is a battery hog.

Like I said in an earlier post, I’ve rolled off the top end at about 1.5K and that removed all most all the sizzle but left the sound a little muffled. However it will just have to do. Bury it in the music mix.

I’m sending the shooter a Lectrosonic UHF system to finish this project.

I do appreciate your suggestions and will relay those back to the hapless camera operator.

My experience makes me believe she was operating just past the range limit of an inexpensive wireless system.

The file was sent to me so I have no access to either the location, mic, xmitter or receiver. My role in this is “post screw-up”. Typical noise reduction does not work since the sizzling does not occur during the space between words but rides on top of just the dialog.

Any suggestions regarding a noise reduction filter?
